Until Sunday, overall the Jets pass rush had been a little disappointing, not getting nearly the pressure I thought they would. That changed vs. Denver. It was nice to see Ulbrich/Saleh make some changes and adjustments, giving Huff more snaps and lining Huff as a LB on at least one play. I also love the blitzing this year. That gives another element for opposing OCs, QBs and OL with which to deal. Here is Baldy's Breakdown from Sunday. I think you'll like it!
Blitzing is nice to have in the repertoire however, how about putting a spy on QB's who use the run as their bailout option too??
I think they’re stunting way too much. I know they’re trying to get Q in singled up situations but sometimes you just gotta let the big man work through the double teams or let someone else win.
We can't always tell how much effect our D rushers have on the game. I'm sure it forces other Offenses to change their game plans...short passes, screens, keeping players in to block...etc. One thing I will say I like our broad net of talented players, versus one superstar the team's waiting to make that one big sack to end the game. Von Miller, Donald, both great, but I like having 6 or 7 above avg guys constantly pestering the backfield and harassing the QB, whether or not they get a sack every play.
In the video it shows that Huff was used as a spy on at least one play, and I believe others may have played that role as well in the 2nd half.
and it was effective wasn't it... Ulbrich absolutely HAS TO put a spy on Hurts. No two ways about it. Additionally, he's gonna have to drop that soft zone on 3rd and long as well. Should be going to a max pressure package as we continue to get gashed with that useless zone of his.
Nice video breakdown. One thing the videos show is how bad JJ's hand technique is. If he could disengage from an OT his pressure rate would be sick.
We WASTED that pick on Mcdonald. That should've been Becton replacement pick. Hes in his last year . I want to see Carter Warren get some time. He looked pretty good before getting hurt.
lots of money and draft resources on that D line, no reason to be gimmicky. Just let them line up and beat their man
Yeah... all that money and picks on the line should result in more than one player that demands a double team.
Bryce Huff Is an absolute stud. After watching him again, holy shit, he Is phenomenal. He’s a superstar edge and I hope this staff will see that and not let him walk. That would be such a massive mistake but I’m concerned because this coaching staff seems to have a hard time identifying some of our talent on this roster. IE: Randall Cobb 3rec for 20yds on the year. How are we not playing X and Hardman more In the slot?? Baffling. Why Is Cook still touching the ball at this point???? My confidence Is lacking In this CS when It comes to talent.
They give too much playing time to the big contracts and old vets. Herman Edwards did the same thing. I would release Lawson and Cook if they can stand the cap hit. Give away Hardman for a bag of chips. Make Cobb inactive and play anyone else.
I will give them credit for not benching Zach after NE game, and he rebounded nicely, but Cobb and Cook sucked for 5 weeks now. When are we going to give Izzy and Hardman a shot to see what they can do? Are they really that bad in practice? It took for both Duane and Wes to get injured for us to finally give a chance to Tipp. CS should have identified that Duane sucks and Tipp is good before the injury forced their hand. As far as Huff, I think he is basically what we thought Lawson would be - Troy Hendrickson of Bengals, and this is a not an exaggeration. JD missed on Lawson, but hit on Huff, which makes up for it - if we can keep him. Now a guy like that needs to play, and we just have to resign him. It will not be cheap either, but there aren't too many elite edge rushers in NFL who are also solid run defenders, which he now is. If having McD is what is preventing JD from resigning Huff, that pick was even dumber than it looked from the beginning and can have disastrous consequences.
I don't think he missed on Lawson. He has been productive when healthy. Things change.. Bryce Huff Is someone that has to be extended. No excuse not to at this point, he's shown he's a stud.
Hopefully Cobb is helping to develop our young WR corps. Otherwise he's a wasted roster spot that hasn't achieved separation on a route since about 2019.
When you sign an ascending guy to be a star pass rusher for 3 years and get one solid year (not great) of production, you missed. Whether it is health related or not does not really matter. At the end of the day the production is what counts. He made up for it with Huff, if he extends him, but Lawson was a miss, I don't think there are too many people happy what we got out of him given the investment.
lawson was a healthy scratch last week and only played like 15% of snaps the week beofre. he already lost his playing time to huff
