Remember when Tom Brady and the Patriots had problems at the WR position? It's about to happen again! This is the reason why the Patriots should have locked up Stallworth and Moss longterm instead of for just 1 year. D.Stallworth has been signed by the Browns ESPN just reported (Again) That R.Moss and the Patriots are NOWHERE near a deal. Looks like W.Welker is the #1 WR for the Patriots, when he is a SLOT WR... Whos gonna be the #2 and #3 WR's for NE? Its funny how the Patriots are losing players such as A.Samuel, R.Moss and D.Stallworth... While our Jets are gaining players such as K.Jenkins and A.Faneca
Be careful what we wish for. The Pats signings are coming back to bite them ATM, but they still may land Moss again. We, on the other hand, have locked up two very key players, but are having issues with Coles and Rhodes. Add to that the loss of Vilma and alot of the supposed talent on this team is in flux as well. Tanny has done great so far, but while its good to see our key rival losing talent, I'd rahter jsut keep improving our team and lock up the talent we have here.
They blew their money last year so they don't have that much cap space. if moss doesn't sign there, brady's not going to be happy. i wouldn't be surprised if they're talking to the broncos about j. walker. heck, belichick might even give keyshawn a call if moss leaves.
There is no issue with Rhodes. He will be locked up for a long time, whether it happens now or later.
We need to view Rhodes as the most important player on the team and sign to him to as long of a contract as possible. Hes a super elite safety and a leader of this defense which is looking like its gonna be dominant for many years to come.
Stallworth leaving isn't exactly the death knell for the team. But regardless, they were built to win last season, and keeping that defense competitive is going to be a big challenge.
Rhodes will get done once we are done signing players. I think Tangini wants to see what their cap situation is before they get a deal done. If D-rob gets traded that will expedite things and they will at that point probably talk with coles. D-rob is really holding up a lot.
Agree about D-Rob. Even though he is a good talent, we need to move him. his cap number is just too high to experiment with a short stout 34 DE. He really does not fit the mold for us and must be shipped out.
If Moss leaves Brady will be pissed, so Moss won't leave. I'd like to see some other teams have some balls and chase him, just to up the price on the pats.
i hate to be the one to bring this up bc i hate the pats as much as the next guy, but they won 3 superbowls with avg wr, and they still have tom "buttchin" brady which will always make them good, their oline is still inact and is a great unit, they will still be huge favorites to win the division, we have work to do, but they do look a little more vulnerable as we gget stronger and they lose their best cb and possibly rand moss....."who da best quterback on the new england patriots? randy moss. who da best athlete on the new england patriots? randy moss. who smokes the most weed on the new england patiots? randy moss."-randy moss
Taking into account your screen name, I still feel compelled to say that no safety can ever be the most important player on a football team. And no team in its right mind would break the bank for a safety. Rhodes is a good player, probably very good, but he is not a Pro Bowler. And even if he was, he is a SAFETY. If Rhodes gets too greedy, bye bye Rhodes. The big money goes to corners, QBs, tackles, some RBs and pass rushers, End of story.
Yeah, I'm a little concerned about how the contract extension situation with Rhodes is going. I'd love to see that taken care of before TC.
Rhodes isnt a pro-bowler? Statistically speaking, he was the best safety in football in 06. In addition, most football insiders agree that Rhodes should have made the Pro-Bowl this past season ahead of Polamalu. Your statement isnt correct. Rhodes is arguably their most important player on defense. Hes their leader and has put up elite statistics while playing on a bad defense. Imagine what Rhodes can do with a quality front 7 ahead of him.
Pretty ridiculous that Rhodes hasn't made the Pro Bowl each of the past 2 years. He should've made it over Lynch in '06 and over Lynch, Polamalu, and Bethea in '07.
Doesn't matter. He is still not the most important player on defense. He is a safety. Look at the payroll numbers. Safeties are way back on the priority list.
And he's one of the best safeties in the NFL, it makes a difference. You don't think it'd be worth signing him for same type of contract Bob Sanders got?
