Scouts Inc, sees it exactly the same way as I do.

Lets break this down and start with a simple question: what do you expect our pass/run ratio to be this season?

Because you're incorrect on one point.

Edwards, Holmes,Keller, and Cotchery are not guys that play great close to the LoS.

Of the 4, the closest is Keller, and he's to easy to man up with a LB at the line, calling on him to go deep which is where he excels.

What is completely lacking is a guy with enough raw speed and ability to line up in the slot, and command that the opponent plays off of him. We have not had that since Stuckey left.

A young QB needs a guy he can play Chad ball with not guys that Force him to go down the field consistently.

I don't disagree that getting a guy like Joseph at 29 helps you either.

However, with the probablity that Alualu will be available with the second pick, I'd prefer the guy that makes my 50 million dollar QB better from day one.

Close to 50/50, no greater than 5% deviation in either direction.

Our problem, last season was retaining the ball on third down (we also weren't too good at scoring points...) those are both huge issues that aren't really solved yet, because the only high percentage component we've added is LT out of the backfield.

As I keep pointing out, none of the WRs currently on the roster are predominantly slot guys.

Is there a chance that Cotchery could excel in that role? Sure.

But ...Next season we're most likely going to lose either Holmes or Edwards. And JCo isn't getting younger...

Next season we'll also have a 35 yr old LG, a 34 yr old RT, no OLB a part from Thomas etc etc... even looking at next season there are more pressing needs than a WR. There is a possibilty we re-sign Tate and Edwards... there is no way in hell Faneca or Woody become 26 yrs old again.

Jco isn't getting younger!? He's 28 for christ sake!!!

How many Wrs do you want on team...? a spread with 4 WRs? Edwards and Holmes both have the ability to go deep and stretch the field... and this is what we need from our WRs... if we want to play the short passing game we can give it to LT or Leon (if he is still on the team) or even Cotchery...

And therein lies the flaw in your logic. Our running percentage will be closer to 60% than 55%, and it certainly will not be < 50%.

Holmes is 5'11", quick, agile, and a terrific pass-catcher. He would excel as a slot receiver. J-Co would as well, as he does with everything we ask him to do. Either player can fill this role well.

And J-Co will be 28 for all of the 2010 season, so I'm not sure why you're already saying he "isn't getting younger".

It's clear you have a man-crush on Tate, which is fine, there are a number of players I'd love to see in Green and White, too. But we don't need Tate and there's no room for him in an already borderline-crowded receiving corps. Please start looking at other players.

Scouts inc...(see above) seems to agree with me.(.not that they are the gospel..just sayin)

However, last year, we only ran at 58% with a rookie QB. That percentage is certainly not going up.

Consequently, we finished 17th in points, 20th in yards, and 31st in passing.

And lost at least two games because we couldn't keep the ball when it counted.

Bolding your quotes doesn't make them more accurate, just more visible.

We're hardly overcrowded at the WR position. And Especially not going forward.
    We have 3...count'em 3 good wideouts. A 1 BE, a 1A SH and a 2 JCo..

That's not overcrowded. And we're losing one of the first two next season.

A physical running game is the identity of this team / offense.

Age is a factor on both lines. Taking a OL prospect to provide depth this year, then replace Faneca in the near future without missing a beat is a good idea.

DE / DT is my other choice early.

A team that's strong in the trenches will always be competitive. :jets:

Was not a fan of Casserly as a GM but I agreed with his point. He is respected well enough to be commentator for CBS and the NFL Network. And frankly I think anyname I mentioned would have cause the same reaction as it's becoming apparent that some of you guys want to argue for the sake of arguing. Didn't like Pat Kirwan either as a GM but I respect some of his player evaluations.

You are correct; linemen hold pretty much on everyplay. However, with the proper technique (like keeping your hands inside), it is not as blatant as Iupati. He has very long arms so that's understandable. What was alarming was that a considerable amount of the holds were because he simply got beat and held the d-lineman to prevent him from making a play on the ball.

I'm not exactly sure what we are saying that's different here. I think we all agree that he is the top guard in the draft from a talent standpoint. I simply believe that his pass blocking needs refinement and don't believe the Jets who apparently are making a big push towards the SB would be interested in a player that will need to develop in that area.

Also I disagree with the notion that most rookie lineman have "a lot" to learn. You have to be a pretty interior lineman to be drafted in the 1st round let alone in the 1st round of a talented draft. I believe Mangold was the 29th of his draft and he pretty much dominated at the Senior Bowl practices and games. It was clear he could start from day one w/o being much a liability in the running or passing game.

No one is taking everything about one aspect of his game form one game. For one I had also referenced his performance during the entire week. Second I have to give a bit more credence on his performance at the Senior Bowl practices and game than I would other prospects because he did no play against top flight competion throughout his college career. It's no different than giving a little extra credit to a guy who dominated in a top conference and you know faced NFL caliber competition in practice.

Unless having to play a little right guard is considered out of position I believe that to be inaccurate. He played guard for most of the entire game.

I don't know why people take this kind of message board bullying from you. We are all passionate fans of the Jets and the draft or else we would not spend this much time on these boards. I find your complete lack of respect of others' opinions a bit appalling and childish. It's hard to have an intelligent discussion when you are calling what people have to say "garbage" or "retarded".

A #1 pick isn't needed to replace a guy with a 4 game suspension thats what Smith and Clowney are on the roster for.

I really don't think there is any question he will be available when we are on the clock. I also don't think there is any question he will still be on the board after we make our pick.

I would be stunned if our first pick isn't a defensive player.

Let's just go over this again:

You want the Jets to spend a first round pick on a player who would be #4 on the depth chart in 2010 and #3 on the depth chart in 2011.

You want to spend a first round pick for a guy who is not supposed to start during the first two seasons of his career and a guy who you yourself said cannot take over a starting position because his size inhibits him from doing so:
This has to be the dumbest thing I have heard that doesn't include the phrase "trading up".

    hmmmmm.....the assessment...

Nope...doesn't sound like a slot guy (though that sounds an awful lot like the scout on Welker).

That's not the fucking point. The point is that you're spending a first round pick on a player who, by your definition, will never be a starter barring injury. How the fuck does that make any sense to you, especially when there is plenty of talent for the slot in the later rounds of the draft?

I think Pierre-Paul drops the hardest in the first round. To pick 29... Prob not but I'll choose him as my freefaller.

That is the point. There's a secondary point as well. Going forward. It generally takes a couple years to develop a good wr.

Here's what you're looking at going forward...(contract wise)
Edwards 6.1 Mil 2011 Gets new deal (will want more than 6 per)
Holmes ??? 2011 Gets new deal (will get more than 5 per)
JCo 3.9 2013 New (2M in cap savings if cut in 2012)

One of the first two (my guess would be Edwards...) is going to be gone.
That brings you back to a one and a two.
You also don't know what tomorrow brings in terms of draft position. A freak accident and we could be drafting at the 5 spot next year.

If you had a 29 pick, locked up at 3 per year, between Cotchery and that pick, your at only 6 mil against the cap.

I'm not saying I think thats who they are taking.

But on considering all the other points (weakness of team, offense, weakness of offens, passing game) and so on, plus future consideration.. that's where I;d go with the phone in my hand.

    Opinions obviously vary.

Realistically, today..you've only improved the offense from last year, by 3/4 of one player.
(LT for TJ is a wash)
One really good player, but 3/4 of one really good player.

We've already done more for the number one defense.

I also think we can address DL comparably at 61 (which impacts my opinion here...)

Several of these guys would be there at 61.

    Corey wooton
    Ricky Sapp
Mount Cody (would have to drop a bit)
    Tyson Alualu
    Al Woods
Torrell Troup (DT by trade...could see him at end in 3/4)

Would Iupati be on a short list of players on our radar? If we risk losing out on one of our targeted players, I would bet on Mike moving up. I don't see us taking a passive approach on draft day.
