I know I'm probably going to be killed for it, but I don't think this question is so barbaric now. After starting 5-4, most were really high on Geno as the Jets were looking like they had a championship defense with a capable offense. After watching 2 more games pass, the offense is clearly not good enough and the main problem is the QB. Now, obviously Mark is out for the season and nothing can be done about that, but the question is whether this team would be doing better if he was healthy and playing. Right now, Geno has 8 TDs to 18 INTs and has fumbled many times as well. He is on pace to shatter Sanchez's turnovers in any year. TBH, I think we would be 7-4 if Mark was back there. I'm by no means giving up on Geno, but the question needs to be asked at some point.
Just trying to get a pulse of the fanbase without sifting through threads. Polls give a better overall view.
For the last 3 seasons, The Jets have had below average WRs, porous O-line, and until this season a non-existent running game, so Geno & Sanchez are going to look like crap against good competition, I still believe Sanchez can be a good NFL QB and got a raw deal from Jet's fans and management!!
An urgent need for a QB in 2008 lead to an urgent need for a QB in 2009 lead to an urgent need for a QB in 2013. Hopefully the rest of the season gets us off the "urgent" train for a bit. Well. we can hope anyway.
Let's break this down. The oline while it may be decent, is inconsistent at times. The receivers are average at best. The TE's are average and the RB's are average. I can only judge a player based on what I've seen during their career. Considering Sanchez's history of bad accuracy, poor decision making and bad pocket presence. If I had to make a choice I don't think we'd be any better off with Mark. Geno has his issues as well, and Sanchez has some of those same issues as well.
If we are on the 16 and a QB that the Jets like is on the clock, I believe they will take a QB (Derek Carr) if Geno continues to play the way he has been playing. I don't consider that urgent, but it's the BPA / Need model draft philosophy. Or we can draft play-makers in the first couple of rounds - provide some stability on the other positions and look for a QB later on, maybe a veteran down the road. Tough decision. It's a shame we didn't draft the weapons in 2013, avoid Geno and the other QBs like the plague and look towards the future.
We would probably be about where we are or even a game or two better THIS year, but starting a rookie QB has more to do with next year and the years after. So maybe we need a poll about how the Jets would be doing in 2-3 years with Sanchez vs Geno.
The Jets are likely to take the BPA on their 1st round pick probably with some allowances made for it not being a defensive lineman given their talented depth at the position. If that's a QB then they probably will go that direction. I would expect the rest of the draft to be mostly offensive playmakers after that if they do go QB early on. They're unlikely to make the mistake of having a rookie QB surrounded by tools (or lack thereof) again.
The thing is, the Jets have already fell for this TWICE in 5 years ... what makes us think they won't do it again? It's the same song
2 years ago we had a great chance but the team fell apart the last 3 weeks. last year we had a million key injuries and the worst healthy offensive talent in the league being guided by Tony Sparano and yet we were still in the race in December.
The rest of the league and its fans outside of this board are wondering why the fascination with a retread, loser QB like Sanchez. What's the market for Sanchez next year? Somewhere between BRIC and Uzbekistan.
