we have to keep manning off the field, we need to run the ball and control time of possession because we aren't winning any shootouts with these boys
This is true, Rex can not afford any timeout mismanagements either. I suppose that goes in any playoff game, but we have to keep the ball away from Manning as stated.
Yep, but were gonna have to take a shot or two deep in order to keep their defense honest and give our running game some fluidity.
i expect a heavy does of shonn greene he hasnt been used enough this yr but that better change saturday night
The Titans nearly, and should have beaten the Colts today. The Colts shut down C Johnson. The Titans got their yardage and points throwing the ball. I don't think running the ball down the Colt's throats is going to translate into a win. When they are defending the run, they CAN shut it down. Shit, we have Holmes and Edwards. Keller too. The way to beat the colts is to get ahead of them and then, THAT is when Manning has his multiple INT games. I want to see us come out beating their asses with some long passes. THEN, run the ball. Won't happen.
Running the ball consistently keeps Peyton Manning off the field. The Titans have a beat up offensive line. Our offensive line is very, very talented. I think it will be tough for them to stop our running game, even if they stack the box.
Yes. That AFCCG would have been much different if we didn't give them those points right before half-time.
You may well be right. I remember last year when everyone talked about how the Colts had no run D. Then in the playoffs, they played the run very well. Lately their run D has also improved, and not by a little. I'd like to see us beat them early with passing while they load up in the box, then go to ball control. They are not very good when they don't have a lead. They like to get a lead, force opponents to throw and turn Freeney and Mathis loose. What I am afraid of is trying to run it against 8 or even 9 in the box and being too one dimensional early. Crap, we have Holmes and Edwards. Are those two better than Wayne and Garcon? Or at least their equals? or should we do exactly what they expect us to do.... ground and pound from the start?
I think that may be the death of us. Were gonna have to open it up a bit from the start of the game to give ourselves the best chance.
I'd love to see us come out and play physical football ...try to wear down those speedy defensive ends. Mark Sanchez performs a nice play fake. We'll take our shots on their banged up secondary.
the colts have a quick, light weight front 7 that DO wear down through 4 qtrs of ground and pound. they are good early with their quickness but will get blown off the ball late, making it even more necessary to have the lead and the ground and pound.
I want to see a balanced offense. This team has the tools to move the chains and light up the scoreboard. Hoping for ~175 yards rushing and ~250 passing. Just can't turn the ball over.
The only thing I would add is we need to pick which 4th down(s) we go for it more carefully and to manage the clock a helluva lot better.
I agree. The key is to score as many points as possible, not only control the clock. When you are playing the Pats and the Colts (with offenses that can score quickly) it's not enough to eat up the time. If you can score on a time consuming drive great, but scoring - not eating up the clock - is the more important facet. The Jets have to go in with the attitude that they have to score early and often. i want to see a balanced attack using both the run and pass. They have to use Edward, Holmes, and Keller. They're all very talented so I don't see why you would limit yourself. I don't think that a ground and pound philosophy with the Jets defense will work as well this year. I would go in with the mindset that they have to score at least 27 points or so to win.
