Because Jets' #1 pick is so late...Sign Max Starks T of Steelers & give them the #1 pick, cause he is a RFA & steelers demand a #1 for him. Jets' can't draft a better or more proven, impact OT than him. The guy is a monster. Can put him anywhere on the offensive line.

This reminds me of when Jets' mistakenly tendered Coles only as a #1 pick & not the #1 & #3 that they were supposed to do....AKA Michael Turner.

This would be very smart by Jets' management.

    Part - 2...Draft OL Justin Blaylock with 1st of there 2 2nd rounds picks....HUH...U feeling that ?

I would honestly consider trading a late 2nd or 3rd for him, but not our 1st.

Nobody wants to give up a 1st; but who can the Jets' draft @25 that is gonna be better than this guy? Plus....This is also taking care of a need. This player is 25 yrs old & the starting RT of the ex-super bowl Champion Steelers. :eek:hmy:

Gotta weigh this...Then it makes even more sense. What else can Jets' do better? Trade up or down? But unless Ted Ginn falls into there lap @25....there is no lineman in the draft that will be available to Jets' at #25 ...

the guy is average. he gave up 8 sacks last season, the steelers have like the worst pass blocking o-line in football. no way we should give up a 1st round pick for a guy you can easily get in the 3rd or 4th round

This is not a bad idea at all to be honest. The drop off in available talent from our late 1st to early 2nd isn't going to be all that much...

that would be a terrible mistake just to draft a player because you have to fill a hole. you HAVE to draft the best player available. that way you wont reach for a player

I can't say I am an expert on Max Starks because I am not. I've seen him play on occasions and was never overly impressed. But because I am not familiar with him I looked up some stats from last year. When running to the right this year over Starks, the Steelers averaged 4.2 yards per carry. In addition, Starks gave up 8 sacks.

When running to the right this year over Clement, the Jets averaged 4.2 yards per carry. In addition, Clement gave up 7.5 sacks.

    Something to think about....

It's not going to work for a couple of reasons:

    1. You use first round picks to try to find all-pros not solid players. Starks is a solid player but not likely to become more than that.

    2. If the Steelers really thought he was the real deal they'd just match the offer.

It looks like an option on paper but it really isn't. At least not a winning option.

    Justin Blalock.

Starks is a good run-blocker, but a below-average pass blocker. Pennington would be getting drilled from the right side every game. There are also questions about his work ethic. All potential, little production. I'll pass.

Please oh PLEASE let this happen :)

The Black and Gold would GLADLY take your 1st round pick for Starks.

If anyone still thought a 1st for Starks was a good idea, here's all the rebuttal you need.

    One problem with your "genius"

All offers for RFAs have to be IN before the draft... About 10 days before if I am not mistaken, and then teams have 7 days from the time of the offer to match... In other words, you have to decide before the draft plays out.

How do you people know so much about other teams offensive lineman, do you watch every game they play?

I like the idea of building out 0-line - but that idea sucks. Starks is not an upgrade and certainly not a monster.

The draft is nothing more than a guessing game. If a team can get a proven starter for any pick they should do it.

Yes it is a good deal. A starting OT for the #25 pick would be great value. We have seem top 5 picks at OT never develope into starters. A draft is what a draft is, nothing more than a lottery.

    I agree with Run_N_gun10

You can't exactly scout lotto numbers though. To some extent I believe some of it is chance, but if you have good scouts, you will get a player that will help your team so long as you are smart about drafting. It's not THAT much of a crapshoot or teams like Philly, New England and Pittsburgh would suck since they thrive on things like the draft.

  18. I like Starks alot as he is a monster in the running game. However, he struggles in pass protection and no way is he worth a 1st rounder. I'd much rather draft Justin Blaylock for the RG spot and deal w/ RT in other ways.

You are overselling Starks - not worth a 1st

You are underselling Blaylock - won't get past the Cowboys at # 22
