THUMBS UP 1) Overall great performance by the Defense minus a couple of blown plays 2) Major kudos to MoWilks, Richardson, Walls, Snacks, And Davis 3) Strong running game and solid OL play primarily against the run 4) Major Kudos to Vad, Ivory, Powell and Austin 5) Cheers to Folk, our secret weapon when given the chance THUMBS SIDEWAY 1) Geno played like a rookie, with flashes of brilliance and moments of poor judgement. 2) MM game plan could have been adjusted to the field conditions and strength of our running team 3) OL against the pass was adequate but timing with our rookie QB needs to improve. 4) Did out TE play yesterday? THUMBS DOWN 1) WR as a whole are too inconsistent and ineffective, lack separation, unable to retain control of the ball after a hit, unable to brake routs and help a rookie QB in trouble. This is our Achilles Heel right now 2) Horrific field position particularly after punts. No viable punt returner short of Kerley which should not be out there because he is our one and only WR 3) Geno and the rest of the team early use of time outs 4) Wilson, Milliner, Gates, Harris in pass plays ( may be to harsh on him) DISHONORABLE MENTION We sure as hell did not need the slug fest at the end of the game. Cant afford any players suspended UGLY REMINDER The lingering and disappointing feeling of knowing that we had perhaps the best chance of winning a game in Gillette stadium IN YEARS and we didn't get it done. WE SIMPLY DID NOT SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY.
Very good recap. I do think that even though we played sloppily and missed a lot of opportunities, this game was good for our team. I think Geno learns from it, our D looked mostly solid once again (exception of DBs at points) and hopefully the CS gets on our current receivers (plus Kerley will return). The only way to improve is to work on mistakes and we made plenty yesterday. If we continue to make improvements, we will be able to take NE in week 7 at our place.
i dont think the defense played as well as many believe. there were guys open all over the field. the defense doesnt get kudos because they didnt catch the ball. richardson played pretty well. davis played great against the run. he still sucks balls in coverage though. the dbs were poor to terrible. milliner got benched, cromartie did not look good for the second week in a row. our safeties were not involved in plays very often other than chasing a guy who happened to miss the ball. its painful to think how much money david harris makes when you see him play. ----- on the other side, the ol looked pretty good. vlad ducasse might make me eat my words when i have shit on him the past 3 years. very happy to see him progressing. my hope is that he can do to some of the smaller faster guys the same things he did to that big fat fuck in the middle of the pats d line. howard was up and down a bit. he got beat like a rag doll a few times but wasnt terrible. the backs ran hard. the wr were pretty horrible. and the qb needs to make better reads and better throws. morningwood needs to run the fucking ball more. i am going to say that every week from now until he doesnt work for the jets anymore. he is a pass happy guy, i hate that about him. shorter patterns, a 3 step drop would be nice every now and then. a 7 step drop should happen about half as much as it did last night. way way too many slow developing patterns.
As much as I also would have relished a win, the bigger story is how bad the Pats look, especially Brady. How many times have you heard a superstar QB raises the play of those around him? Moss was washed up until he played with Brady and caught 300 TD's a week. Welker? A nobody in Miami until Brady turned him into the NFL's top receiver. So what happened last night? Brady couldn't 'raise the play of those around him'? Brady's ONLY TD came on a busted play. Beyond that? He scored a total of 3 points, all night long. Even giving up 4 TO's, Geno beat Brady in almost all QB categories, yards, 1st downs, 3rd down conversions, etc. Both Brady and Geno only scored 10 points, but Geno actually earned his TD with a long drive, not a fluke busted play. Bottom line, Pats look worse than bad. Jets looked worse than bad. Should be a good season!
Apart from being upset about the obvious, it really, really sucks that Brady had that 1 TD. He's close to another record that I won't be too happy with him getting. (most games consecutively with 1 td thrown)
