Let's stop the rivalries and make it geography. I know there is history, but just for fun: AFC EAST NY Jets NE Pats BAL Ravens Buf BILLS AFC NORTH PIT Steelers CLE Browns CIN Bengals IND Colts AFC SOUTH MIA Dolphins JAX Jaguars CAR Panthers KC Chiefs AFC WEST SD Chargers OAK Raiders DEN Broncos HOU Texans NFC East NY Giants PHI Eagles WAS Redskins TEN Titans NFC North GB Packers MIN Vikings DET Lions CHI Bears NFC SOUTH TB Bucs STL Rams NO Saints KC Chiefs NFC WEST ARI Cards SF 49ers SEA Seahawks DAL Cowboys
I notice Atlanta no longer has a football team. And its probably not fair for Kansas City to have to compete in two divisions But on a serious note itll never ever happen, they already reworked divisions with the expansion teams not too long ago. Personally id like to see some kind of reworking so that teams dont get fucked based on their division. I mean you could have a team be the 2nd best team in the nfl for a series of years and never get a home playoff game because they get shit out of luck with the divisions. Baseball addressed it with their changes, doubt well ever see football do it (ie 3 divisions of 6 per conference with 2 winners per division eliminating the wildcard)
AFC East NY Giants NY Jets Buffalo Bills New England Patriots AFC South Jaguars Bucs Dolphins Panthers AFC North Bears Seahawks Packers Steelers AFC West 49ers Raiders Cardinals Chargers NFC North Broncos Packers Lions Browns NFC South Falcons Colts Saints Texans NFC West Cowboys Chargers Titans Bengals NFC East Redskins Rams Eagles Ravens
The 4 team divisions are boring though. They create too much of a balanced schedule and too little divisional rivalry. This is the way I'd do it to make the NFL really compelling again: NFL East Patriots Jets Giants Eagles Redskins Ravens Toronto Bills Panthers NFL Central Steelers Packers Bears Bengals Browns Colts Rams Lions NFL South Texans Cowboys Dolphins Buccaneers Falcons Saints Jaguars Titans NFL West Raiders 49ers Seahawks Chargers Broncos Chiefs Cardinals LA Vikings Each team plays home and home against the other 7 in their division and has a game against 2 of the 3 teams from the other divisions that shared its position in the standings the previous year. Each division winner makes the playoffs and there are 8 wildcards based on record. The wildcards play the playoff teams down to 8 total on weekend 1 and we're off.
So the superbowl could be vs 2 teams in the same division? I dunno, for me you gotta have one team representing a side vs another team representing another side.
Because them, the Giants and the redskins have rebuffed any attempts to switch them. Too much money to be made.
Screw the afc-nfc thing all together... Northeast NE NYJ NYG Buff Southeast Atlanta Tampa Miami Jack East Pitts Philly Balt Wash Central Cincy Cleve Indy Tenn North Minny Chi GB Det South NO Dallas Houston Carolina Midwest KC St Louis Denver Arizona West Seattle San fran SD Oakland
I like this idea, give more regional play to determine the best in each region and then narrow it down in the playoffs
No luck of the draw, the cowboys, Giants, and redskins insisted on staying in the same division, becasue the Cowboys and redskins were the biggest draws and made the most money and the visiting team gets a piece of that.
It was luck of the draw. I was specifically noting the 1970 realignment which is where the whole NYG-WAS-PHI-DAL 4-way rivalry started.
Here's are the conference I believe should be realigned in the NFL AFC East Patriots Jets Bills Colts AFC South Titans Texans Dolphins Jaguars NFC East Giants Eagles Redskins Rams NFC West 49ers Cowboys Seahawks Cardinals The rest of the other conferences remain untouched. Feel free to express your opinion.
Can someone make one where the conferences were eliminated to so the Giants, Jets, Eagles? would all be in the same division. Ravens in the same division as the Skins then umj aguars, Bucs, Dolphins, Falcons together maybe?
What, and have them all play each other twice like now? So both NY teams get 10 home games per season? Yeah....no.
Philly, Boston, and two NY teams in the same division, oh man. Just realized Philly is in two divisions, NE and E. You are missing WAS it seems. I think WAS goes in NY/NY/NE and you leave PHI/PIT together
The sides are arbitrary as it is. I think a Super Bowl between two long-time division rivals would be great entertainment. If the AFC and NFC actually each represented anything in particular then you have a point but the merger was 40+ years ago. The only person who still had a vested AFC/NFC gripe was Al Davis and he's gone now. The only thing that matters in terms of the conferences right now is which network broadcasts them. Think about it. The idea of 2x Jets-Giants, 2x Jets-Patriots and 2x Giants-Patriots every year is amazing. The Patriots get 4 games, a quarter of their schedule, against their two greatest rivals. The Texas teams would get 2 games against each other every year. The Florida teams would get 4 games against close rivals. The Eagles, Ravens and Redskins would have a freaking ball and the Panthers would be in that group also. The California teams all go party together to figure out who is best. The Great Lakes teams are all in the same division. This would be great for football. I don't need to see the Arizona Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers once every 4 years. I want see the Giants 2x each year. That would mean something. The others are just random visits from teams as likely to be down in the dumps and boring to play against as to be doing well.
Yea, I messed up. I think that i would put the Bills in with NE, NYJ and NYG. Give the other one Philly, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Washington (close proximity) In fact I'll edit my other post. Good catch
