Crystal ball predictions: 1- No matter what the picks turn out to be, the thread " Idzik sucks big in day 2 is already in the works " 2- There is very little chance the Jets will trade either up or down, but if they do many will second guess the move. 3- Idzik sticks to his master plan via BPA grades weighted by need and pulls the trigger accordingly. His reluctance to check with us fans is unnerving at best. 4- Non withstanding the fact that we still have some holes defensively, if the pick is either a CB or OLB the reaction by many will be postal anger, and the comment "Rex still controls the Draft" will flourish. 5- if the pick is offense, the reaction will vary from euphoria ( top WR) to happiness (top TE) to a mild upset ( OT or OG) or vice versa 6- if the pick is a defensive end or tackle this board will explode When is all well and done, I predict that by the end of day 2 we will be even a better team. Let's get it done.
I disagree with number 2. I think a trade up in either rounds 2 or 3 is a foregone conclusion. We will NOT be drafting 12 players this year
I hope you're right, LA. I like Pryor, and liked him before the draft. My question is do the Jets plan to play him at FS or SS? If it's the former, then I can get on board with this pick. If it's the latter, then I'm pissed and think it's a wasted pick. Allen made a lot of progress last year and was developing into a pretty good SS and Jarret played well in spots. Landry is a JAG and yet another SS. Bush is the only FS on the roster, and I don't think he should be (the only FS or on the roster). If the Jets bring back Ed Reed to mentor Pryor at FS, then I will like this move, even though I think it was a big mistake for the Jets not to take Bridgewater or Cooks. They'd better damned well be right that Geno is the guy. I like Geno and will be very happy if he develops into a quality starter, but am not convinced that will happen, whereas I think it's almost a certainty that Teddy will develop into a very, VERY good franchise QB. I think Cooks is gonna be a star. I can't believe that NO got him. I like the BPA approach, but I'm find it more than unbelievable that the BPAs for the Jets over the last 5 years or so has almost always been a defensive player. I'm sick and tired of the offense being ignored, and Rex still can't get the job done with the D with all the high picks he's had to work with.
Truly hope you guys are correct and we trade up for a top notch WR. I think the OG and OT I like will go very early too, along with Lee and Matthews.
I think people are too hard on Rex and FO in terms of drafting offense/defense. Rex did trade up to grab 2 offensive players in 1st and 3rd round in his first year here (Sanchez and Green). So I don't think he is forcing anyone to draft exclusively defense, it's just by chance, the BPAs are defensive players. Can you guys name lots of offensive players we could've taken instead of Wilkerson/Milliner/Richardson/Couples who turned out to be better than them? Probably not, just the way the chips fell. We've never hesitated to draft offensive players when they were a good value for that slot (Aside from Sanchez/Green, Geno and Hill in 2nd rounds). Pryor was projected to be a top 15 pick, Cooks and Lee were not.
Pryor was expected to go higher and when the good Dbs fell he smartly waited and got a very good player. And as for trading since this is a very deep draft he might not have to trade up to get a good player. Guys with equal value are going to be available so to me BAP is the way to go. Let's see what happens but he had a good draft last year getting Milliner and the best defensive rookie last season in Richardson. And Geno too. Who looked very decent his last four games after a predictable up and down rookie season. In other words we saw improvement enough improvement to basically keep the guy here and pretty much give him a good shot at remaining starter.
Just to add to your comments, I'm watching the NFL network and the consensus is that there is plenty of 1st round players left on the board so the second round could be huge. It's our best shot to get a great offensive player and never look back. This day could be even more important to us than day one.
We could use a lot of the depth. Wouldn't surprise me if we did draft 12 players this year. If it was a team like the 49ers, I'd agree with you.
I wouldn't mind that at all. I was against trading up in the 1st because we'd really have to overpay with plenty of solid options on the board that could fall to us. Trade one of our 4ths to move up in the 2nd isn't a bad idea at all.
As the NFL draft coverage gets more and more overhyped and overexposed each year with reporters all over the place talking about players for weeks ahead of the draft, several networks covering the thing, primetime weeknight drafts spread out over four freakin' days etc, of course there are first round players available in the second round. If you think about it, logically there can only be first round quality available in the second round if the same number of players with second round talent were drafted too early. There probably is the same talent level left for round two as there was five years ago, ten years ago, etc. or at least since they allowed underclassmen out before their senior year. We just hear about players more than ever. Know what I mean? That said, we have an opportunity to get a great player in round two - same as every draft.
The Jets can get a very good player just sitting where they are and that's probably what they should do. There's no chance Lee or Matthews or somebody else great falls to them at 49 if they trade up before that can happen.
Honestly unless geno flops.....id rather just wait till next year to draft a prime ot rather than settle for one who won't make any improvement this year at best. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
I would like to see them get a proven talent on offense. Hill was a reach from day one and we all knew it. Not always try to find that diamond in the 4th or 5th round. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
