I made sure to send a reply to him via email with the following:

Hey Mike, do you consider your column entitled ?SOMETHING SPHINX? sports journalism? It resembles the incoherent ramblings of a bipolar ex-girlfriend that can?t understand why you don?t return her calls. Really, get over it. We understand, as fans, that not knowing the status of injured or absent players creates a sense of uncertainty, but as fans we know the less information you let out, the harder it is for opposing teams to game plan. Suppose Chad?s noodle arm is at issue; would you want every team we are facing to game plan for a short passing attack? Perhaps you should stick to something you understand; like run-on sentences.

The fact is, that as fans, the only thing we care less about than the secrecy is this nonsensical drivel you get paid to produce. We understand it makes your job harder. We understand you would like to produce your pile of petrified excrement with as little effort as possible, but we also understand it makes scouting ten times harder, which is what we DO care about. We want our team to win.

I don?t recall 10,000+ people ever chanting ?M-I-K-E Mike Mike Mike? in unison.

Does it really matter though? You work for the very least credible information source that freedom of speech has to offer. Don?t worry, Mike T, and Eric might come around and realize that you are the secret love that they?ve been yearning for, and come to your office in person and sweep you off your feet with a strong, yet tender sense of press.

For real. Maybe if they spent time watching the games they're paid to cover, they wouldn't need as much spoon-fed information.

    The dude is a tool.

Read it earlier, pure garbage. I love the part where he starts going on about how the fans are affected.

You mean like Ray Mickens and Chad Pennington in '04?? Face it Mike, this is nothing new. The old regime did the same thing. But since Herm kept you guys buttered up in the press room, and gave you enough material that you probably still have some gems left over in your notepads, you never bothered.

"But what about the fans??"

I can tell you, speaking as a fan, the secrecy does not bother me one bit. So yeah, you don't have to worry about me, Mike.

Edit: Couldn't even get the guy's name right.

WHAT?!?! I can't cheer for the Jets because they don't speak to HIM? Is this guy F'n serious?

He spouts on and on about how he doesn't care but we do. Hey assclown, come check out TGG.com and see how LITTLE we care that Mangini doesn't speak to you.

He talks about us not trusting the team that Penny's father is truly ill, and he was given time away by Mangini to be with his father. WHAT?!?! F U Mike. Just because you feel some need to keep your readers doesn't give you the right to put words in our mouths. Especially when it involves a grown man being with his FATHER when he needs him the most!

I've always hated the tabloid dishrag that is the NY Post. However, now I am absolutely sure, between this, and the whole Lo Duca on the front page for 10 straight days BS, that I will never even touch that waste of good trees ever again.

Jets fans should boycott the Post. Show them how much we actually care about their ridiculous brand of storytelling. I won't even disgrace the word by calling it journalism.

Do you think he will care if they ever talk to him once they start winning?? It is mind boggling to me that the Post keeps running this garbage.. Are they that desperate to fill the pages of a newspaper?

I'm going to start enjoying this, because there will be no end to the venom and anger from these guys. Seriously, we should start rating the levels of frustratrion that the beat writers/NY sports writers display on some sort of scale. I think Vacarro just redlined it.

I don't know why you guys are being so hard on these poor journalists. I mean seriously, you should all be ashamed. Here they are day after day, roaming the Jets training areas and games just trying to bring the very best of a sports team that you all love and cherish. And you boo them. What else could they possibly write about anyway? It is either that or sitting around the copy room sharpening a box of #2 pencils.

This is what i sent the prick:

    dear Mike,

I read your article called "something Sphinx" and i just cant understand why you
would slam Mangini and Tannenbaum. I understand that they are very evasive and
secretive. Is that such a bad thing? I dont think you should attempt to speak
for fans because the majority of us like whats goin on. We believe in Mangini.
I am not saying he's amazing or anything because he has never coached a regular
season game, but I am saying that from what we have heard and seen, as little
as it may be, the majority of us are happy. We all know the sportswriters
arent. When you say you dont care that the media is being shunned by the
organization is a LIE. You care, your mad, and your trying to anger fans. Why
would we side with the sportswriters? You are all sour because now you only get
what fans get. Keep crying Mike. But dont bring the fans into it. I guess
working hard is not your style. The jets wont hand you an article so u bash
their front office. Keep being pathetic.

GO HERE AND SEE WHAT WE THINK OF U:

Well, let's just rate them on the ARod scale. They have convinced a whole city to boo a guy that hits 40+ HRs with 120+ RBI whenever he doesn't create 3 runs every at-bat, so if they can't write a fantastic informational piece, even given a lack of available data, they get booed.

    Fair is fair. :)

I don't follow baseball, but that is pretty ridiculous. Heck, I don't even follow their football writing except when someone goes out of their way to post it here. Makes me scared to bother reading much anything else they write on out there in the whiney, teary-eyed section of sports journalism. :)

I'm glad he clarified that he doesn't care how the Jets run things. He really got his point across by writing several paragraphs full of venom and every negative synonym he could find in the thesaurus. Well done, Mike.

Then you have his pathetic sucking up to the fan base, despite the fact that the majority agrees with how things are being run. He also implies that football is a "secondary sport" and in danger of somehow dying out because the Jets depth chart is in alphabetical order.

Its a very poorly written article. He never really gets to the point he is trying to make. Either he is afraid to say what he means or he is just a very bad writer. My guess is the latter with alittle bit of the former.

What he appears to be trying to say and which other writers have hinted at is they feel Tangini are two know it all arrogant kiddies that walk around with their nose in the air treating everyone they meet with disrespect. He further seems to imply that presently these two wonder kiddies are in the honeymoon period but he hints that will soon end when the losses start mounting. Eitehr way it is only natrual for people who have been working at a job for many years to resent two new people when the new people walk in and act like they are smarter than everyone that has been there for 10-20 years. If the new people had done something to earn respect in other jobs it might be different. But these guys have no resume and no accomplishments. Its to be expected they would be hated when they walk in and turn things upside down especially when they thumb their nose at people who have been working hard there since these kiddeis were in junior high.

What he seems to be hinting at here is that when the losses start mounting there will be payback and the floodgates will open and everyone will be attacking the two dimwits that run the Jets. While he might be right I doubt everyone will jump on board right away. But there will certainly be some payback. People have long memories and they won't give our kiddies the benefit of the doubt they would have gotten if they treated people with normal kindness and respect. He may also overestimate how much effect this negative press will have. My guess is Jet fans will take a lot longer than the press to turn on the team. The press turning on the team may even have the effect of keeping many fans on the wonder kiddie bandwagon longer. But I guess it really depends on how bad the losing is. If its real bad expect some or even many of the players to jump on the anti wonder kiddie bandwagon as well. It is certainly a situation that is ripe and has potential to snowball out of control very fast if the losing is bad and ugly.

Either way he makes some valid points even if he has problems articulating those points. The wonder kids through their arrogance and lack of personal skills have placed themselves in situation where they need to show us something this year to keep the peace between themsevles and the press. Being young and new one would have thought they would have had a very long honeymoon period. They have drastically reducded their honeymoon period and cut down their margin of error. They better be ready when the season starts or it will not only be a long season for Jets fans but for them as well. In fact it might be their only season. Or at least we can hope.

I just sent the following email:

This is just about the most ignorant column I've ever seen. Sorry you're a little hurt, but you obviously don't know any Jets fans or how we feel.

I'll just ask this; why is the NY media in love with Parcells and his antics but not those who learned from him?

You made this statement after 2 preseason games: "By conducting their business the way they have, the way they do, you have to wonder if winning is even an option."

Can you reread that please? Do you really think that's a responsible journalistic observation?

Wow. No offense, but you need some serious self-examination time.

That sort of over-the-top sensationalistic comment doesn't sell papers, it ruins your credibility as a journalist. Think about that a little bit today, you CAN do your job AND feel good about yourself at the same time.

Man is he right on the money. I remember when Joe Walton, Bruce Coslett and Rich Kotite would release the depth chart and I could sit back and do my job as a fan with ease. Those were the days. Now with Mangini not releasing the depth chart, I'm running around not knowing which way is up!! I also have this strange feeling that even though I've sat through years of 3-13 and 1-15 records, I'm just now not feeling the same interest in my favorite team. Its got to be because there is no depth chart!

So I agree, SCREW YOU MANGINI AND YOUR DAMN DEPTH CHART!!! I am now off to throw away all my Jets gear and season tickets. If you need me I'll be in the corner sucking my thumb with Mike Vaccaro.

Seems you have allready made up your mind on them after 1 draft and 2 pre-season games.

There is only one person who counts and that is Woody Johnson. If he could survive 5 years of Herm and Bradway, getting through a couple of rebuilding years with a stafff that is actually dedicated to football should be a piece of cake. Herm was a media tool and that's all he was. He took a SB ready team and ran them into the ground. The current group has added at least 4 impact players in the draft. The progress between game 1 and 2 was tremendous. Players are being mixed and matched so they actually get a chance to be seen with first string personal for real evaluation. I'm concerned about Shotty JR, but after 2 games Mangini is clearly head and shoulders better than Herm Edwards.
