This guy hasn't caught one NFL pass and he is saying he's a combination of Shockey and Gates. He went on the record as saying he's better than Gates and that he's not a TE, but a "playmaker". There's a difference between confindence and egomania. Egomania can tear a rookie apart, no matter how highly touted you are. I don't think that some players coming out of college understand the difference in speed and brutality that is the National Football League.
Just to be fair dclark, Jeremy Shockey was talkin so much trash when the Giants drafted him, before he played a down of football in the NFL, that Mike and the mad dog went nuts ... I can remember it like it was yesterday ... they were like, who the heck does this kid think he is? I Guess he thought he was pretty good, and he was right
I disagree man. Ellis has been better in the 3-4 than in the 4-3... Mario Williams is bigger than Ellis, and a much better athlete. That makes me think that Mario would be dominant in the 3-4.
The truth is, Jolley and Baker are both not top 15 TE's... our WR's aren't that great... and our 0-line is mediocre... if you think about it pretty hard, Vernon Davis actually seems like a real good pick. I'd be good with it.:breakdance:
The guy's got talent. But let's not forget he said this IN MANHATTAN to the New York Post. He was on ESPN Radio 1050 with Stephen A yesterday, and when Steph asked him what offensive system he thinks he fits, Davis answered: "San Francisco because Norv Turner knows how to use a TE"
I didn't know there is only one round in the draft this year... We can add to our offensive line with any of the picks after #4...I am all for getting brick, but just because we dont draft him doesn't make our Oline HORRID...
yes but i highly doubt Mario is there at 4. so lets be realistic, i'm not hellbent on getting any of the top 3 qb's. and if i had to choose one it would be young. even then i dont really care. but that wont happen either unless theyve wanted young the whole time and mastered the greatest smokescreen of the draft. so i want Mario Williams,Vernon Davis, or a trade down. thats just me though.
Yes the dude can block.... He has room for improvement which all pass catchers usually do But when you can bench press 600+ lbs and have the legs the size of trees from Thigh to Ankle, his blocking will get much better.... Put it this way, we know Jolley can't block. So what good is he?
thank you yet again Penny! lol, its ridiculous people try to act like Ferguson is the only OL available this yr. its just what you prefer....id rather take two OL with the 29th and 35th picks if we get Williams or Davis at 4. or a OLB and an OL. i mean theres nothing wrong if you think picking brick is the best way to go people, just dont pretend people dont understand that the game is won in the trenches just because we dont want our "franchise" pick to be an OL this yr.
The foundation starts in the trenches where the JETS are weak. They're not in a position to choose a "luxury pick" which a TE usually is. My point is that if the JETS use the 4th overall pick in the draft on a TE, he better be THE COMPLETE package.... or as Winslow would say "The Chosen One". I want him to be able to make grabs as well as plow people over. PennyandtheJets, the oline already is horrid, his selection has no bearing on it, but if he's not a good blocker, then it won't help
vernon davis at 7 lawson at 29 gabe watson at 35 Thomas howard at 38 Eric Winston at 69 O'Callahan at 71 Maurice Stovall at 94 Omar Jacobs at 104 Chris Chester with the next pick
Ellis has been better in the 3-4? Care to share the proof of that? He had a 10+ sack season in the 4-3. He played 1, count them, 1 year, in the 3-4 and that was as a rookie, so I don't think any of us know how he'd be in the 3-4.
and is he wrong about that? thats a different question than who do you think wants to draft you. they already made success of eric joseph on a joke offense, so what would davis do?
hah, Vernon Davis is the total package.......a luxury pick isnt someone who can play WR/TE/H-Back. thats a smart pick. i understand what you mean though cuz there are other holes that need to be filled.
Not only did he have 8.5 sacks his rookie year in the 3-4, he did so without Abraham on the other side. On the flip side of the token, in the 4-3, Ellis had two good years in 2003 and 2004, but also had 3 bad years in 2001, 2002, and 2005. He's been largely 50-50. What he proved his rookie year though was that he is capable of doing it. With his experience I would think he'd only get better, not worse. And again, going back to Mario Williams... he is larger and faster than Ellis. He is like Abraham but with bulk. Mario can be very successful in the 3-4... I am very confident of that.
Ellis was drafted to play the 3-4 Abraham was drafted to play LB in the 3-4 and also play Hybrid 4-3 with him at end. Bill Parcells did the drafting expecting Bill Belichick to coach, but in turn went to Al Groh.... All of these coaches are 3-4 Defense coaches. I can understand that some Jet fans would see TE as a luxury considering they haven't done diddly squat for us. Nothing memorable about any of them. But we would get more than a TE... We would be getting a WR We would be getting a better and stronger blocking TE than we have on our roster now. He would be the focus for any Defensive Coordinator, making the game easier for our offense.
