This was a very saavy report on our team with the talent inplace and the draft coming up we have alott to feel great about. Pace looks like a beast he and BT should compliment each other well and Harris a 2nd rd pic may be our best player. Questions loom around the selection of Clemens with this line the job should be his to lose. http://mvn.com/nfl-jets/2008/03/08/let-em-hate-credit-the-jets-for-their-moves/
I don't get why we are an old team... i thought i read somewhere that we are the 6th youngest team in the NFL.
I love how every player we signed was either, A) Past their prime, or, B) Haven't 'done it' long enough. Too funny...
I notice that he states we are getting a fourth for Kendall from Washington.....that would give us 3 fourth rounders. Anyone know if this is true?
The 4th rounder for Kendall is next year. I think the person that writes that blog posts on here, but I cannot remember their name right now.
I believe the Jets were the 2nd or 3rd youngest team in the NFL in 2007. So now we're a little bit older. I view this as a GOOD thing. Our lack of quality veteran leadership has been atrocious the last few years.
I just figured it out. I took all the guys on our current roster that will probably, or could, make the team next year (which was 54 right now BTW) and divided it, and I got an average age of 27; that is very young still. I do not understand why we are labeled as an old team. The 4 players we got, 2 of them are in their prime (Jenkins and Pace) and the other two still have AT LEAST 3 years left (ages 30 and 31). Besides that most of our core players are at or under the age of 28. On offense: Clemens, Cotchery, Baker, Mangold, D'Brick, and Washington. The only other core players are Coles and Thomas Jones and they are 30 and 29 respectively. And on defense: At or under the age of 28 is Coleman, Jenkins, Harris, Pace, Thomas, Revis, and Rhodes. In fact, the ONLY two players that will be starting on defense this year that are over 28 are Ellis and Barton, who are not core players, they are actually very expendable. We have got a very young team and a very bright future, mixed in with a few veterans to help out.
my only problem with the Jets right now is that we don't have that big play guy. we have nobody at the skills postions that scares anybody
I wouldnt be worried- While we lack a big play guy on offense, we have a much improved offensive line and playing alongside that much improved offensive line are steady and talented players like Coles, Cotchery, Thomas Jones, Washington and the unfairly dismissed Kellen Clemens who will take a big step forward and prove his doubters wrong. As always, our special teams will be dominant. For the first time since the Sack Exchange, we will have an elite defense. We will take this division. Dont be in awe of NE- They lost to the Giants and we almost beat the Giants with Pennington as QB- Enough said.
I like that attitude...new line means someone will rise to the top...don't know who it will be, but we have that ability now. Just don't be to upset when it takes half the season for the line to come together. No matter how many all pros we have playing together, a cohesive unit still takes time. Just like being patient and giving Tangini, Clemens, and the individual units the benefit of the doubt, so must we do with the O-line.
Big play guy, I hear that a lot now a days and it's not what this staff is trying to do here. This staff is trying to create a very balanced offensive attack involving as many talented players as possiable. We saw some of this last year in the way Schott wanted to spread the ball around. It is very hard for a defense to key on any one player if any one of the skilled players who lines up for a play RB's,TE's,Wr's can take it to them. We really have some young talented kids playing for the Jets and fans would have seen that much more if the O-Line was in a little better shape last year. Giving the QB a bit more protection or holding a run block for just a half second more would have open many eyes. Think about some of the close games we lost last year for lack of a strong presence up front on both sides of the ball. Brad Smith comes to mind as one of the young players that might really be able to make some plays if the rest of the system is working the way the CS invisions it. So the "Big Play Guy" while nice on some teams, in this system it many doing the small plays the make the whole system itself the "Big Play". No doubt it would be nice to add a WR who can get deep with the best of them and open that part of the game up. Yet, other then that we have a lot of playmakers all ready and if it all comes together this year we are going to see that.
Thing is, perfect scenario you still have that big play guy. The Pats offense works similarly, as does the Chargers offense, the Chiefs offense, and the Browns too. Sure, the systems versatility can hide the need for a big play guy, but in the end you still want the best talent possible.
Oh come on if you really think we will beat out the Pats for the division you not thinking straight right now. Yes the Pats lost a lot of people but they still have Brady and Moss plus Walker. Don't get me wrong I hope your right and I am a betting man and I wouldn't bet on the Jets beating the Pats out.
