http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/30/vick-gets-4-million-for-one-year-in-new-york/ Fun fact: Vick is getting a lower annual rate than Chad Henne, Matt Cassel or Josh McCown, all who also signed deals this year.
It's a fair market contract for a backup QB, but I'd actually rather have McCown or Henne. It's quite possible they were paid more, as they are better at this point in their careers than Vick is..
Vick's salary along with other journeyman QB salaries really shows how little NFL GMs value Sanchez only paying him $2.2 million. Henne, Cassel and McCown are valued twice as much. I can only recall the Sanchez nuts saying last year how much in demand he would be if released. But then I recall in 2012 Junc saying that Sanchez was better than Peyton Manning and that Manning would flop with the Broncos as he believed Manning was a product of great Talent on the Colts team and that a team with such little talent as the Broncos would bring Manning back to earth.
Henne and McCown took multi year deals. Sanchez hit the market very late, he took a one year deal with the idea of getting paid next season. Sanchez still has the potential to make a lot more in the 2nd year than Henne and McCown will make, so its not set in stone at all. If McCown really had confidence in his ability he would have signed a one year deal and proved he is worth a lot more than 5 million, now he will be stuck with that much even if he plays at a very high level. If Sanchez plays at a high level he will be getting a lot next offseason.
For you, not me. It comes down to if Chip lets him play, if Chip lets him play he will be getting a Joe Flacco like contract next offseason.
Your assuming Sanchez will be in the NFL in 2015. Right now he is hanging on trying to extend his career. he has been promised a chance to compete for the back-up job and likely has a job for 2014. But there is no guarantee a QB as bad as Sanchez will be able to keep a job in 2015. He is a QB that does nothing well. He is inaccurate, has poor pocket presence, takes sacks at an alarming, rate, unable to take hits, been described as soft, mentally weak, folds under pressure, was the all time NFL leader in fumbles per game after his 1st 4 seasons. He cannot read defenses, cannot make quick decisions, does not look at more than one third of the field, panics under pressure and lowers his head running blindly until he hits something or is hit. He has the worst traits of all QBs. He has the mistakes ratio of some of the worst QBs to ever play the game but none of the upside these poor QBs possess. A guy like Grossman makes mistakes like Sanchez but has periods where he can carry the team and fit balls in tight windows. Sanchez can only complete passes with a clean pocket and wide open receivers. At best he is a game manager that cannot manage a game. If Sanchez was actually good or marketable it would not matter when he was released there would be a place for him at more than 2.2 million. Everyone knew he would be released on or before March 25th. If he was worth waiting for someone would have waited. No one cared. Now he is fighting for the 2nd string spot which is better deal than other he could have gotten. There are not many teams where would even have a hope of competing with the 2nd string QB. The best thing that could happen to him is for him to carve himself out a career as a career back-up and hang on similar to what McCown has done and many other journeyman QBs try to do. The odds are that he will be out of the NFL in the next 2-3 years.
Out of the league in 2015? what nonsense is this? I think the correct number you are looking for is 2025.
I wont be surprised if Foles gets injured. Hasn't he had trouble staying on the field in the past? As for Sanchez getting a 100 million dollar contract thats ridiculous. I would bet Sanchez plays better than a lot here thinks in Philly with better weapons and great coaching but 100 million is just silly.
Ah for some reason I thought it was an arm problem. Still it is football. I like Foles and dont want him hurt but Id like to see Sanchez start a couple games this year.
If some team offered me $2,500,000 to hold a clipboard while watching 16 NFL games from the best seat in the house I'd definitely turn it down. Yup. I have my pride ya know.
