May 7, 2007 Home > The Way We Hear It ~ ~ ~ NY Jets Jets LB Jonathan Vilma had nothing but good things to say to PFW when asked about what the team?s prized new running back, Thomas Jones, will add to the team. ?Well, we know he?s going to bring toughness, he?s bringing professionalism ? he?s been there, done that. He was put in kind of a tough situation (in Chicago), splitting time with another running back, and he just made the best of it ? he just went out there and played. He didn?t gripe about it. He really kept the focus on the team and not on him. And he could?ve easily requested a trade and things like that, but he played and was professional about it, and we expect that from him coming over to the Jets.? Vilma also told PFW that he has been impressed by Jones? work ethic during organized team activities. ?He works hard. He?s definitely been a plus. He?s been a catalyst in the workouts this offseason. We work out together, as a matter of fact, and he pushes me, and I push him.? > http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+Way+We+Hear+It/default.htm?mode=afceast
just as long as homeboy knows he's gonna be splitting carries with Mr Leon Washington who already has a better grip on our playbook...that crafty veteran...
i doubt he's going to be "splitting carries", maybe sharing a few, but not splitting by any means. the guy has proven he can be a workhorse back, is still in great shape, and has a ton more experience than lil leon. they brought him in here for a reason, and that reason is to shoulder the workload
I'm sure he does....it will benefit him too less strain on the body....if this tandem works out watch out....
Ha! I was actually going to throw in a percentage of 80% Jones 20% Washington, good call  But thinking about it a little more, it may be more like 75/20/5 just to add in Houston. Jones pretty much eliminates Houston's role as the power/goal line runner on the team, but he will still get a few carries, like if its 3rd and short and Jones needs a breather.
I love the TJ pickup but hate to see Leon get less carries. Hopefully we can work him in as a 3rd or 4th receiver in some sets.
Washington will prolly be used more for screens and dump passes......I love having both of these weapons
doubtful. I think this FO is very high on leon's upside. Almost as high as Trey KO. After the glimpses this guy showed last season, they've got to get the ball into his hands more. We already know the positives TJ will add to the team, Leon needs to be explored a little more on the field.
I wanna see some formations with both Washington and Jones in the backfield. Let the opposing defenses try and figure out who's getting the ball, is it going to be a handoff or a screen? I can't wait!!!!
Give the guy a break, he showed a lot of promise in that December away game in Miami '05. God forbid either of our running backs get hurt, I think we have a solid #2.
