Plax: Let Tiki play September, 30, 2011 2:52PM ET By Jane McManus Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress said NFL teams should consider his former Giants teammate, running back Tiki Barber, in an interview with the New York Post. "It's crazy," Burress told The Post. "He's better than half the backs in the league." But apparently some careers are easier to rehabilitate than others. Burress had no shortage of interested teams after serving a prison term stemming from the night he accidentally shot himself in the leg. But his actions, although foolish, weren't personally directed at his teammates. "You'd think with the lockout teams would be looking for a veteran guy since the young guys couldn't go through minicamps," Burress said. "I'm very surprised he's not on somebody's roster. But it's just Week 4. Maybe somebody will call him." Or maybe not. Barber, 36, was booed last season when the Giants brought him back for a game, which is one indication of how his popularity has fallen. After retiring four years ago and going to work in broadcasting full time, Barber made some critical remarks about his former team that made him unpopular in the league. After withdrawing his retirement papers, only the Dolphins worked him out. No team has signed him. "I believe he can still play and have an impact," Burress said.
Tiki really screwed up his life. He retired with some cushy tv gigs and appeared to have the charisma to stay on TV for years. Even if Tiki has the ability to help out, I'm assuming teams would view him more as a backup or 3rd down back. Why take an outsider for such a role when you've seen his history of being an A-Hole. If Tiki was younger or had people believing he's good enough to start, he'd most likely have a second chance.
Where'd I say he'd be "elite"? He'll be a productive back if/when the OL gets in sync or grows a set of berries.
