He’s always been a real solid player, nothing jumps off the screen but more than serviceable. I wouldn’t say he’s a Rankins replacement but he’s close.

Sounds like the perfect Replacement for Sheldon. This move makes you feel a lot better about the D line We were getting a little At the defensive tackle position.

Nice pickup, in a weak area.

An OK guy to compete for a back-up spot, but this is not a starter. Small and not exactly a great run stopper. We added some depth with this move at a position of need, a cheap signing for the bottom of the roster to compete with Smart. We need to add some quality though still.

Still not enough QUIN's on the defense.

Getting bottom of the barrel sub to compete with Tanzel Smart and Thomas for cheap is OK, but let's not overexaggerate what happened here: we added a warm body, a vet, to compete for a back-up spot. We lost two really good players and so far didn't get the same quality back. Maybe they are asking JFM to beef up and move inside, but short of that losing a starter and the primary back up who was much better than Thomas, then adding Jefferson who sucked last year particularly against the run certainly does not make me feel a lot better.

One of the few lasting gifts I brought with me from childhood is the ability to perfectly walk like George Jefferson. Although I'd probably get arrested for race terrorism or something if I did it in public now.

I used to do a spon-on Michael Jordan walking during stoppages in the action. Like walking back on the court after a time out, for example. Or to the foul line. Languid, but somehow herky-jerk at the same time. Definitely unique.

My impression of him hanging in the air wasn't as good.

I wouldn’t call a guy with 5.5 sacks last year from the DT position “bottom of the barrel”. He seems to be good guy to have in on passing downs. We did not have a good run stuffer and still don’t.

Good signing but I wonder if we’re ever going to sign a nose tackle for first and second down?

It’d take a lot of pressure off Quinnen to be the primary run-stopper on early downs in the middle.

Seriously. I get this scheme favors a certain type of IDL, but they really seem to only target those who are liabilities against the run. Hopefully they either sign Al Woods or draft somebody who plays the run very well

I was just going to suggest big Al Woods if he wants to keep playing. There’s a couple others out there I’m sure or we can draft one in the late rounds.

I believe he sacked Mike White twice last season in that embarrassment in Seattle

I suppose in pure passing situations he could be decent, but he is a huge liability during the run. I don't hate the signing, but our weakness was stopping the run last year, and we got worse in that department at IDL at back-up. And still don't have a competent starter.

Eh.. I feel like JD continues to sign solid rotational pieces hoping they out perform their contracts. Great when it works out.
I'm hoping they can find a run stuffer late in the draft

I still think Woods is in play for IL and solid against the run plus we will draft one. This guy is more than a decent rotational DE, that will benefit from Q and Lawson double teams. I'm guessing JFM will be playing inside more, and Johnson will have a bigger role as DE. Also, lets not underestimate what the beast Clemons can do at DT.

JD price point value chart is at work... guy is decent and has adequate stats. IMHO he is better then Shepherd so lets not devalue this guy to much.
