out of curiosity how far do you think we could move up using our second first round pick and our second round pick ???
We could get into the mid first round. It's not really worth it though--we can get two players of more or less equal quality where we are.
Denver traded the #29, a third-round selection in 2006 (#93) and a fourth-rounder in 2007 for the 15th overall. So we should be able to trade up to maybe the 12th (KFFL reported Cleveland willing to trade down to a spot where they could select Bobby Carpenter today) in exchange for the #29, and possibly just one of our third rounders (#71). If thats all it took, I would do it. At #4 and #12 we would have a shot at any combination from the following two groups: #4: D'Brickshaw, Mario, Leinart, Vernon Davis, AJ Hawk #12: Vince Young, Jay Cutler, Haloti Ngata, Winston Justice, Michael Huff, Manny Lawson, Kamerion Wimbley... and we still have the #35 and #97 on day one, 2 4th rounders, 1 5th rounder and 2 7th rounders. It could be worth it, IF we got the LT we want and the QB of the future we want.
Now that sounds pretty good. but in all honesty would cleveland really fall that far in the draft just for 29 and 1 of our 3rds??????
This is at least more of a thoughtful alternative to trading up. Not trading up to #1 or #2, but moving up from #29, which I think makes sense, if our guy is there. Something that should be considered if we don't take D'Brick, is trading up for Justice, who won't last past Philly at #14. Another to consider if we really like Carpenter, we might have to move in front of the Patriots, and surely the Giants if we really covet him.
I dont see us trading the #4 also. History shows bad things happen to the Jets when they trade 2 1sts to move up. But, I also dont see us trading our #2 +our 1st rnd pick. It might be too much to move down for a team. I dont see any 10-15 teams wanting to trade down. Maybe the Cards. Then agian you can never say never. But teams usually grade players in tiers. Almost everyone agrees there are 7 "elite" players in this draft. If the FO thinks there are 20 "true" 1st rnders then I can see them trading the 29th and our 3rd to move up to about 18-21. We have 5 1st day picks, so I can see why we have alot of trade rumors, but if anything I would try to stay put until the last minute.
We need a back, curtis ain't getting any younger. We ain't gettin bush, so go after the next best thing and DeAngelo is gonna be a huge success in the nfl.
not saying Deangelo will be sucessful or not. But comeon. He isnt that good only 14 out of the 32 teams have 1st rnd picks as starting RB's thats like 1 or 2 a yr. But how many start for 5 yrs? So you say Bush is a definite... Is DeAngelo a definite for premise 1 I guess... but for premise 2 I dont think so... I can name 25 players better than him in this draft(will they be better or worse?) but I dont think deaneglo will be special. Not many do watch deangelo wont be a top 15 pick. just stop typing his name who cares about him. there are other players in this draft. there are players who will be drafted in rnd 5 where we will go "we should have drafted him Tanny stinks"
I'm aware and I actually don't really expect him to be drafted. I really just want to make sure we get a first round back (DeAngelo, Maroney, etc.) but DeAngelo is the best back of the bunch below bush.
that is not a great way to go by the draft, you never draft by position.... especially when 2 of them make more than 1 mil a yr. if it comes down to position then maybe deangelo but there are 22 other postions I dont think we will get rb. cause I think the FO values RB better than that. rememebr where they got their rb's from......
