In all the years I've watched the Jets (1964 onward) this is the worst I've felt about the team. I don't ever recall being this down about the team in general. Let's recap. 1. The Jets trade for my least favorite football player. 2. The Favre deal turns out to be a bad move. The Jets lose a third round pick and don't make the playoffs. 3. Rumors fly that Favre is unhappy with Mangini for calling him out in front of the team. 4. Rumors fly that Favre was treated too easily by Mangini and is resented by other players. 5. Kerry Rhodes says Favre needs to be committed to the team implying he wasn't. 6. Thomas Jones calls out Favre saying he should have been benched the final game of the season. 7. Rumors fly that Favre was cold and aloof and not at all close to his teammates. 8. Woody says he fired Mangini because, well because he wanted a change. 9. Woody says he wants Favre back. 10. Rumors fly that Woody will do anything to get Cowher including letting him decide on his QB and bring in his own personnel men. 11. Woody admits he lies to the media and fans, meaning you can't believe any of the stuff in 8 to 10 above. 12. Rumors fly that Cowher didn't want to come to the Jets because of Favre. 13. Rumors fly that Cowher didn't want to deal with a dysfunctional organization like the Jets. 14. Rumors fly that Favre was injured for the latter part of the season, but never went to see a doctor until the season was over. 15. Rumors fly that Mangini lied to Kendall. 16. Rumors fly that Mangini lied to Coles. 17. How does Favre come back if the players don't like or respect him? 18. Maybe Favre doesn't come back, which would be the only good thing to come out of this mess. 19. Rumors fly that Favre won't decide if he's coming back until the end of February. 20. Rumors fly that maybe Woody doesn't want Favre back; that he was lying when he said he wanted him back. How is hell does the team expect to find a good head coach with all this crap flying around? Who would want to come here under these circumstances? If the owner lies to the media and fans, why wouldn't he lie to potential coaches? Even if all the stuff above were not true, it has the appearance of an organization that's in shambles. Hopefully everything works out well; the Jets get a good head coach and Favre retires. But that's looking more and more remote by the day. Long Time Jet Fan Who's Now Suffering
To be quite fair though 12 of the 18 are to do with Favre, take him out of the equation and it doesn't look quite so bad. Things just seem bad right now for many reasons, one we are all sitting back and watching the play-offs instead of being a part of them, two we don't have a head coach so the direction of the team is unsure, three because arguably the most important position on the football field is up in the air for next season and four because we just suffered such a collapse, and five because 90% of the threads on here at the minute are negative. We all just need to get some positivity going on the forum.
All this negativity is seriously raining on my parade. Somebody please tell me the Dolphins suck and the Jets are going to the Super Bowl.
its the nfl what looks like a mess now can be turned around rather quickly. i would say the falcons with the vick situation and the coach quitting before the end of the year were a much bigger mess than the jets are now. they are in the playoffs in a rather short period of time.
wow ltjf that was quite a list of crap!!!!! although i think kenny may have gotten me through the night with his post! as bad as it is right now, and its BAD. its still not as bad as it was in atlanta last offseason. i didnt see the thing about woody lying to the media and fans, what was that all about?
He actually told the media he lies to them; that he's not going to publicly berate a coach. This was his reply when asked what happened to the vote of confidence he gave Mangini a while back. This one isn't a rumor, he actually said it.
WOW thats absolutely amazing. i am flabbergasted at that one. i dont even know what to say. thank you ltjf, i was just starting to feel better after kennys post and now i am right back in the crapper
Man, almost all of your later points have to do with media rumours rather than fact, just cool down and wait to see what happens
Y'know, when Hess owned the team, we kind of knew that he was a lousy owner for the Jets. Not that he was a bad man in any sort of way but as far as a football owner, he blew. I guess it was fitting for his son, after his death in 1999, to sell the team to another lousy owner. Its the same thing except this jerk now wants to have his hands on the team. But like Snider in DC, he knows not what he does. Now it seems that we will get one of three guys with this kind of a record. First Shannahan. He sucks as bad as Mangini when you look at the Bronco's collapse. Couple that with the post season record he had in Denver and you see what your gettting with him. Then you have Shotty. Great regular season coach but again, a pathetic post season record. So far so good, Right? Ok, then we have Spagnoula. I guess thats his name. He has no Head Coaching experience. So we know we have nothing there. Or we have the next Parcelles. I doubt it. But that is where our owner of the New York Jets has us. But as long as he is selling jerseys and selling out Pre-season training camp practices, all's good.
I look down at Woody Johnson, this whole mess, and the franchise.... They really are the fat kid in school. Fucking losers. At least there is one cool roommate in the "Stadium Dorm" and they wear blue. How inept the brass is makes me laugh. Its embarrassing. Do yourself a favor, sit on a high horse and tell them to go fuck themselves. Its working for me.
We used to be boring on the field and off the field now we are just boring on the field. When the team gives you a bone don't complain.
Relax. Its all just a bunch of rumors that shouldn't be taken seriously. The team is a good team that improved tremendously this season in large part due to moves by the FO. If we get a good HC and make a few more good moves in the off season the team will be in position to win 10 + next year.
"The Jets trade for my least favorite football player." That's not a reason, its a personal dislike. This is like those threads about chicks who dumped you and stuff.
Yep...this is the worst I have ever seen too. We will be lucky to get another third rate coordinator to take the job. More likely we will end up with Shitty Jr. or some other scumbag coaching this team.
I go back to '65 and this is the worst I have ever seen. Not so much wins and losses but the total ineptitude of the owner and management as well as the cancer of the locker room.
going 9-7 is worse than going 3-12 followed by 1-15? Thats news to me. Not sure what you mean by ineptitude of the owner and management. The FO went out last year and brought in lots of good players who dramatically improved the team and out recent drafts have been a helluva a lot better than they were historically.
They did that to sell PSLs. They will be gone as soon as they do. The owner is a fool. He hires three rookies in a row and seems ready to do it again. Tannenbaum is a joke. He wouldn't know talent if it bit him in the ass. The locker room speaks for itself. As far as wins and losses there were plenty of years as bad as 96. One under Mangini.
