Nobody said nothing; its quite.... Woody is on his way to London. Macc is playing "hands-off field ops" Bowles is playing with his toilet McCown is playing... Hack and Petty not so much...
Would the Jets give him full control of everything? Assuming they clean house at the end of the year. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Saint will probably want us to trade for him, and I am not trading for any coach unless he's won multiple championships. Also, the notion of trading for a coach so that same coach can come in and lose out on precious draft capital is counter intuitive.
Between spending 4th on Payton vs. Some maybe-pans-out WR, I'll take Payton every time. To Jets a competent HC is more important that whatever you can get in later rounds.
Yea I feel like at this point, Payton will want more responsibility than just being HC. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Maybe only if deal is right TBH no coach wants to come here without big incentives power etc Answer to this dilemma draft a blue chip QB who is ready to step in and play like Luck J Winston Then the deal is different Defense is semi good that's a given
But Payton hasn't won much, and although that's also due to the deterioration in talent around Drew Brees, I still have a hard time trading for a coach when in all reality, how much longer are the saints going to keep on to Payton? If he doesn't make the playoffs again this year, I would not be shocked if they pressed the reset button.
This is kinda what I'm hoping for. Payton had 1 SB, and it was a while ago. Is he really a good coach, or was that just a fluke, function of unbelievably gutsy onside kick at the start of 2nd half? He can shut these doubts by repeating with shitty Jets of all teams. Next year we will have a decent D, and 1st overall that brings that shiny new QB. It'll be tempting for him
Exactly -- he hasn't won much (see my reply to O12), but by Jets standards, he is EVERYTHING we didn't have for 15 years. Payton easily commands a 4th. Hell, I can argue he'd be worth 3rd!!!
If Payton is available you have to snag him up. With that said, I doubt the Jets will. They aren't going to fire Bowles after this season, unless he shows no improvement in his management of the team. It definitely won't be based on wins losses. I'd personally love to see an offensive coach like Sean Payton on the Jets. It would be a breath of fresh air. Defense only gets you so far.
If Sean was the coach the past few years would you have started a thread to "Give him a chance" or the same thread as this?
The Saints defense has never really been good under Payton but as far as bonehead mistakes and clock management and play calling and many other things that he brings to the table I would take him in a heartbeat ! PS I am still amazed that Mike Holmgrem is not ever in the conversation ? He went on local radio last year and pretty much said " he would like to work for the Jets " ,,,,,,,hmmmmmmm?
If the Jets go 0-16 If the Jets get the #1 overall pick All possibilities I think the chances are good. Woody has never spent big on a GM or HC but after 0-16 hey there's a first time for everything. If he gets that #1 pick he better entrust that QB to a proven pro. I prefer Harbaugh but I do consider Payton a possibility.
Are you sure about this? Because Brees is waaay up in age, has no weapons and D still sucks. Why exactly Payton should stick to QB who is about to retire?
Well.... I started the thread to counter the Gruden thread. I've had it with dreaming of mediocrity. I mean if you're what-iffing next HC, why not what-if someone actually good!? But to answer your question honestly, I think if Payton was here over the last couple of years, we would know exactly what Jets have in Hack and Petty. And for this I'd be advocating for him to stay.
