    1) To paraphrase Mr. Hobbes "there is no QB competition". At least not anymore. Secret hopes by the Jets brass and most fans for either a Geno miracle or a Sanchez resurrection have not materialized, not quite yet. Sanchez will start the 1st game of the season by default. If there was a chance for Geno to push the level of QB play and make both better it didn't happen, and the setback from last week's injury probably killed any glimmer of hope for Geno.

    2) This leaves us with little or no comfort, as Sanchez has not demonstrated much more than his erratic performance of years past. Good one moment, terrible the next. His propensity to turn the ball over by his poor judgment and lack of full field awareness is not apt to change, thus it's only a matter of time before the coaches change him. His interception last night was not good but not terrible, but his lack of field awareness missing an open Gates when he chose to run was unacceptable even by rookie standards.
    3) Our OL seems to be coming alone and so is our running game. I think we will be better than last year in that area.

    4) MM game plan and NFL caliber calls are an absolute breath of fresh air. He is bringing out the best of our TEs, WRs, FB and HBs. This is clearly a QB friendly system. Therefore, with the better OL and new game plan all excuses for Sanchez's woes are over.
    5) Our D, the " so called" strong suit of the Jets is showing significant kinks in the armor. It will take every ounce of Rex's savvy to make us top 5-10.

    6) Of note is the weakness of the OLBs to seal the edge during the running game or short slant passes. This is quickly becoming our Achilles heel defensively. Sure Rex can somewhat plan against it but still a glaring weakness

    7) Special teams might be a bigger asset than we think.. A few no name players looked impressive. Some guys showed some promise, Miles for one, number 49 I believe, the big DE that battered the pass in the second half. Help me guys with your thoughts in case I was too punch drunk in the second half. BTW Gates might seal the faith for McKnight. Too much down side for Joe even though a damned good kick-off returner.

    8) Is it me or our kicking and punting team is showing promise and making it tough for the coaches to pick the starters.

    9) Rex is getting nothing but shit from the many media illiterate and a bunch of Jet fans. No matter what he does is wrong, no credit has been given to him for anything yet he has been more successful than the last 3-4 Jet HC in my opinion. Even in his speeches you can detect a sizable sign of maturity. The blame on him supporting Sanchez to a fault has become questionable. If there was a clear superior candidate today that Rex can pick please point him out.

    10) SUMMARY - Things with the Jets are never easy. Even when we win we show the fragility of our capabilities against a less than average opponent. At this point, we still suffer from the lack of a consistent and proven winner at QB. A leader that makes everyone around him better because they believe in him. Our season rides on that premise. My confidence as an eternal
Jet optimist is beginning to be questioned.

God please let me totally wrong on my assessment.

on #9, his record is a mere 1game better over .500 than the ultra conservative HERM EDWARDS. MANGINI was labeled the MANGENIOUS when he took his team to the playoffs, and not for an injured FAVRE would have had another playoff year. BEFORE that we had a 9-7 AL GROH and before him, a HOF coach named BILL PARCELLS.

REX has been average at best and in reality is nothing more than a glorified D-coordinator who should never ever be a head coach again!

As far as our defense blowing chunks last night, I think a 'Rex Ryan Defense' does not shine in it's 'Vanilla' form. Rex's defenses shine based on his multiple formations, blitzes, and fronts, the so called 'upper half' that's capable of confounding the likes of Manning, Brady, and every Rookie he ever played.

We've seen none to very very little of a true Ryan defense.

The penalties and missed tackles are coachable.

Good read. Ithink MM system is the best we have ever had it is fun to watch. Watching Sanchez in the system is hit or miss, I wish we had a better QB, this offense could score and get us to the playoffs even with average WR's. Geno in this system by next season will be scary especially if we get more weapons. I will enjoy the rebuilding and will celebrate the exit of Sanchez and sorry but Rex also, he just is not a HEAD coach.

Offensively the OL is light years better than last year which should help the running game which in turn will help Sanchez and improve play action. The receivers are running much improved routes and actually getting open. The use of the screen pass/dump off is back which was completely abandoned last year. Last Pre-season all the talk was how the Jets can't score and this year they are putting up points.

The defense - you have to hope it is only preseason and Rex is hiding some exotic fronts/looks and playing things a bit vanilla because they don't look impressive.

Yes they are, but it's been the same story for the past 4 seasons. While they are coachable, I don't believe they will be. Fundamentals don't seem to be something Rex has ever been big on coaching.

LAJet, the OP was excellent. I agree with almost every word.

If Rex is out, MM is out, and Geno won't be in it next year....

Why would Rex being out guarantee that MM is out? BS lasted thru a million HCs (or so it felt).

i really dont think the d was expecting a no-huddle situation in a preseason game, and that offense looked nothing like the jags i remember, so they probably were a little surprised at the start. i dont think it really means anything in the long run. rex will have the defense performing come opening day.

sanchez is making mistakes out there. its not good, but to be fair, hes playing pretty well even with the mistakes. im not really going to get pissed because of the time management at the end of the half, because, well, it was a preseason game and he could ahve just wanted to try for a td for the hell of it. i dont know what to say about the picks, or anything else, but he looks like hes got good command of the offense and im willing to let mornhinweg iron out the mistakes if it comes to that. either way, im happy with the way the offense looks going into the season, and honestly it is better than i expected, so im hopeful for this team.
