This Defense is the same as last year with another year of experience under its belt and two big additions. With the whole NFL lockout it is important to keep players who know your system to get a quick start when the season begins. Even in Baltimore Ryan liked to keep the same guys year after year.

If you look at all the guys on our PS or last second acquisitions when the season ended you won't see any player who is better than the guy already at the position. We need only to replace Jenkins and Pryce. We filled those holes through the draft.

Taylor has repeatedly said he wants to be back and he will be. There is not a better player available for the cheap price we can get him. Add in the facts he knows our system and can get 5-10 sacks as a second tier player, deal done.

Our biggest reasons we were not #1 last year is three key injuries. Revis took half the season to be 100%, Leonhard was the key to the secondary and Jenkins was the foundation of our DL. Revis and Leonard are back and will be 100%, plus Pouha filled in nicely for Jenkins with a year experience as a starter.

Young guys I like as backups who should stick around are Westerman, Murrell, Ihedigbo and Cook. They all saw the field last year and showed enough flashes to be around another year. As stated earlier, in this unusual year a BIG plus is knowing the system which they do.

Five guys that earned thier way onto the 2011 team. Starting with two versitile backup guys that don't get enough credit are Lowry (2 FR & 3 INT) and Ihedigbo (3 Sacks). Both are good on special teams and know their rolls on defense. Also, at the end of the year Mauga and Laury came on and for the last five games of 2010 they were solid backup and earned thier spots.

The 5 keys to our #1 defense:
    1. Sign Harris to a long contract which would be CAP friendly. A must!
    2. Re-sign Cromartie to a deal, if not possible it might be a long year for Wilson. Cromartie wants to be here and in my opinion is the best available CB.
    3. Get Taylor to sign for an incentive base contact for veteran minimum. He has said we are the only team he wants, so let him show the love.
    4. Hard to say this, but re-sign Thomas to a new contact. Thomas likes his comfort zone and should be easy to negotiate with.
    5. Lastly, stay healthy with no season ending injuries to our starters.

DL: S. Ellis, Pouha, DeVito, K. Ellis, Wilkerson
OLB: Thomas, Pace , Westerman, Taylor, Murrell
    ILB: Scott, Harris, Laury, Mauga
    CB: Revis, Cromartie, Wilson, Coleman
    SS: Leonhard, Smith, Ihedigbo
    FS: Pool, Lowry, Cook

Gone are Jenkins and Pryce. Jenkins was one of my favorite Jets, but he has not been on the filed very much the last two years and we need to move on.

Yes, just my thoughts and needless filler in a time when the NFL news is so boring. It took three days just to find the newer article/blog on the Jets which I posted earlier.

Ellis and Taylor are not likely to come back, but out of the two, Ellis would be the one. Taylor showed little last year and they need some youth at OLB.

You can take Murrell off your list....he was a Patriot last year.

I have a feeling Sataele might be a factor....if he could stay healthy. coaching staff seemed pretty high on him and before his injuries seemed to be playing well. Seems like he could be a decent backup at ILB

When? In pre-season he was always out of position... and then he got cut. Wasn't even on the PS.

That said I don't think Murrell (who wasn't even on the team last year), Laury and one between Ihdegibo and Smith will be back. Taylor might but I'd prefer to give Westerman a shot...
Cromartie might be brought back but I think he'll see bigger money somewhere else (Houston?).

Of the 24 guys you list for the roster, 9 are free agents. It will be hard for the Jets to keep Cromartie/Ellis/Poole/E.Smith/Coleman. There will be substantial turnover in the secondary.

Ropati Pitoitua, great note, not sure how I forgot him and just after Bart Scott was ranting how good he is coming along.

Also, I messed up on Murrell, always liked him and sad to see him playing up north.

Swap them out 1 for 1.

That should be real close to our roster unless we can't resign one or get a super deal an a FA who wants a SB shot.

Is that why he was banned?

This is his opinion though, or is it a copied opinion?

Maybe he was banned because he's Iggy. That seems to be a hot topic on the board lately.

MBGreen banned me for a month because of my Avatar which hadn't changed in six months. Never even knew it was a problem.......

After questioning the long ban it was lowered

    :shit:

Getting Cromartie signed could become a huge factor in terms of how our entire defense plays this year. Cromartie is by far our 2nd best CB behind Revis.
