The O kicked their vaunted D up and down the field only to lose on special teams and INT return fluky plays vs Bengals - the 1982 wildcard win in Cincy ( first playoff win since SBIII and in my lifetime)/ 1981 home opening loss - big disappointment for a 10 year old kid vs Browns - end of season 1985 beating/ 1986 playoffs ( need I say more )
Vs Colts- Super bowl III I win. I was supposed to add a loss wasn't I? uh, the 2009 season's AFC championship game, one step away from the Super Bowl and... denied.
My AFC East would be too numerous for just one memory: Vs Patriots - 2010 playoff win / 2002 home opener and 1985 wild card loss Vs Bills - 2008 win at Buffalo ( I was there with my son his first game) / 1981 WC loss at Shea Vs Dolphins - ALOT too numerous to list both wins and losses - HATE Miami
Okay, this is going off what I remember so these will be really recent: Patriots: 2010 divisional game/45-3 Bills: Chad Morton game/16-13 in OT 5 INT for Sanchez Dolphins: Monday Night Miracle/Ted Ginn game Steelers: 2010 win Brad Smith returns kick off/ Doug Brien game Ravens: I don't remember our only win/ Justin McCareins drops passes from Kellen Clemens 2007 Bengals: The 37-0 beatdown followed by the WC/ Chad P loss to them 2007 Browns: Cotch/Holmes game was ugly but fun/Chris Baker's TD that wasn't Colts: 2002-2003 and 2010-2011 playoff wins/2009 AFC Championship Texans: Rex's first game/only option is the 2012 loss right? Loss 1986 AFC Divisional Playoffs Jets blow 10 point lead with 4 minutes left and lose in double OT Bengals - Win 2010 Wild Card victory, Loss - for whatever reason an early season loss to Ken Anderson in 1981 at Shea sticks with me.
All involving playoff games Wins: AFL Championship vs. Oakland Raiders Super Bowl III Raiders 1982 Chargers 2009 Losses: Kansas City 1969 Cleveland 1986 Denver 1998 Miami 1982
For some of these it is difficult to find a memorable loss or win. Two of the Jets "best" losses in that the losses turned out to not hurt that much and the Jets performed valiantly in the games were both vs San Francisco. In 1971, Joe Namath came off the bench for his first action in 20 games. Namath led a furious rally that fell short. Then there was the 1998 opener which the Jets lost in overtime on a 96-yard touchdown run.
I'll try the NFC lol...but this is just personal memory, I could bother to look up more if I have time later Giants: '88 final game of the season/Victor Cruz's 99-yard salsa Cowboys: Opening Night SNF a couple years ago/? Redskins: ?/Whatever year it was we opened against them and lost after they took a bunch of FA's from us (Coles, Morton, Hall) Eagles: Bucs: Flashlight game/? Saints: This year maybe?/Whatever year we lost to them when they were 1-15 Falcons: Again this year?/The loss a few years back that 'eliminated' us according to Rex Panthers: ?/Bubby shovel pass game when they got their first ever win Packers: 2002 home finale/? Lions: ?/The John Hall game in 2000( 10-7 loss where he missed three and got himself cut) Bears: ?/Losing to them late in 2002 when they were bad and Chrebet tried a somersault late and dropped the ball Vikings: ?/? 49ers: ?/Garrison Hearst OT game mentioned above Rams: ?/? Cardinals: Avoiding 0-16 in '95/? Seahawks: Vinny's 'TD' in '98/The game late in '08 when we lost in the snow to a 3-13 team
AFC North Steelers- 2010 regular season win, 2010 AFC title game loss Bengals- 2009 wild card win, ?? Browns- 2010 overtime win, Chris Baker's TD catch nullified Ravens- 2011 SNF loss sticks out to me. That was the beginning of the end.
^^Excellent calls. Remember listening to the '71 game on the radio (was at Shea) and the 1998 game ........."somebody..........tackle...................him!.......somebody!!......" It was sudden death, and yet it was like slow death seeing one would be Jet tackler after another miss Hurst.
I like this 1985er. good topic. these are from the early 80s on. AFC East: Buffalo W: 1998 week 16 game that clinched our 1st AFC East Title L: 1981 WC game, 1st playoff game since 1969. AFC South Colts- for me it's a toss up between the 02 playoff win and the 2010 wildcard game. The 2006 loss. Titans- 2008 regular season win, 2012 MNF disgrace. Jaguars- 1998 divisional playoff win, 2009 regular season loss. Texans- 2010 come from behind win, MNF losing a winnable game.
Wow you know you said most memorable and I completely forgot about the 2010 comeback. I instantly thought 2009 Rex's first win. That's funny how that is more memorable to me even though the 2010 was incredible comeback.
Excellent call on the '71 game. It was the first game Namath had dressed for even though he was not supposed to be ready to play. When both of the other QB's went down the feeling in the stadium was electric and also led to the oft repeated myth about New York fans being so terrible that they cheered their own players getting hurt. The fact is that most of the fans were busy seeing if the guy was getting up (maybe Davis?) and slow to pick up the fact that Namath had gotten up and shed his parka to take some quick warmup tosses. Knowing there was nobody left to play QB, I had almost immediately checked out the bench area to see this happen and a few hundred began to cheer, NOT because anybody was hurt, but because THE MAN was going to take his heavily applianced knee out to try to make the sun come out on that cold, gray day. Those few hundred spread in a rolling crescendo to a few thousand and then like a tidal wave to become a screaming, shouting, hair-raising, tier bouncing standing ovation 65,000 strong. I never before or since have felt that kind of electricity in a stadium and I was at the Monday Night Miracle decades later. It's late, I don't feel like looking up the details, but I think it was either the Redskins or the 49ers by the colors painted in my memory and I could be wrong, but I believe Namath even ran in a short bootleg TD right in front of me in the open end of the stadium while holding one hand palm out as he crossed the goal line as if to say "there's no reason to hit me now."
The '71 game featured Hall of Famers Maynard, Namath, Riggins, Johnson and Wilcox. Johnson was playing with a cast on his hand and made a tremendous defense of a pass. You rarely ever see a cornerback playing with a cast.
