Without worrying about what we give up to acquire any of these guys (because Tann/Manini have clearly exhibited that they don't give away anything in a trade), pick the one RB you think would have the greatest impact on the Jets roster this year and for years to come.
One of the choices should be Cedric Houston/Derrick Blaylock because those guys are my choice at RB this year.
Keep the horses that are already in the stable and pick a thoroughbred next year. No sense giving up anything during a rebuilding process or before we know what we have in the current backs. My feeling is that a Houston / Washington platoon can be as effective as Dunn and Duckett.
B.J. Askew..... He is supposedly already a Jets player, but I have seen nothing from him, and I was pretty high on him when we drafted him. He needs to buy into the system and take the ball and run. Anyone who has been to camp? Any thoughts on him this year, I know he is supposed to be our FB, but if we go to a single back set, Stick Askew back there and lets see what he can do.
Okay the reason I didn't put Houston/Washington in there is because I was trying not to be a homer and insisting that the players we have already are better than they actually are. The fact of the matter is that the Jets front office is admittedly shopping around for a RB, so THEY don't feel that Cedric Houston and Leon Washington is the answer, and I trust their judgement more than that of the fans who have Jets tunnel vision and pay such close attention to the Jets that the entire NFL landscape escapes the realm of their own rationale. I don't understand some Jets fans, they get word that the team is looking to improve at a position and they dispute it... go figure.
I don't think it's that the CS doesn't feel like our current RB's are the answer....but they don't know what they have in our current RB's. Mangini is trying to get some insurance and solid depth. Houston is a second year back with limited experience(thanks to Herm), Blaylock was a backup all his life and when he had his chance to shine he broke his foot and Washington is a small rookie. I like all of our RB's and they have some potential....but none with real starting credentials until they show something.
No need to get your panties into a bunch. People are just expressing their opinions. Thats the point of the poll isn't it? If you want to split hairs then its unrealistic to not consider what the Jets would need to give up. My guess is that Chris Brown would command a 3rd or 4th round pick. And that may not even be enough to pry him away from the Titans. Is it worth it? In my opinion... no.
Not in a bunch dude. I was just being upfront with why I left them off. Many fans (myself included at times) let what they hope for from players cloud their perception of the reality... reality is the guys we have aren't as good as we would all like them to be, in part because they are second tier talent and in part because of inexperience. Thats not to say they won't get better... Also, its not unrealistic to pose the question without discussing the cost. I just wanted to look at one side of the issue with this poll, the side that examines which RB that has been talked about would be the best fit for us. I am assuming that everyone knows that each of the players on that list would command a different price, but I am putting my faith in the FO not to overpay, so its not a point of discussion that I wanted to introduce. Most of the other RB trade posts have already gone there. I only wanted to explore who would be the best RB to lead us into the future.
I voted for Lee Suggs. He's fumbled 8 times with 305 career touches and hasn't stayed healthy. However, he has talent and shouldn't cost much. I don't see why the Jets would have to part with anything more than a 6th round pick for him.
If trading for a slightly above average RB now, will hamper any plans of drafting a top flight RB in the next draft...I say no go on any potential trade.
