All they sent to the Green Bay Packers probably will be a second- or third-round draft choice. Brett Favre has been worth it and then some. Weigh In What do you think, SportsNation? Vote on each Hot Read debate. Before Favre, the Jets were headed for a quarterback controversy. Chad Pennington wasn't afraid to share his impressions of how the team viewed him, suggesting the front office wanted Kellen Clemens to win a job that had flip-flopped in 2007. Problem was, Clemens was losing the battle in camp. Pennington is lauded unanimously for being a classy leader, but with the muddled quarterback outlook and little confidence from coach Eric Mangini and his staff, the variables were immense and dangerous. Then Favre arrived, and everything became crystalline. A surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer at the helm instilled a conviction the Jets wouldn't have had. Yes, there have been adjustments. Wide receiver Laveranues Coles sulked over Pennington's dismissal. Favre labored to rewire himself after 16 seasons as Green Bay's motherboard. But the Jets are 3-2 and working their way into AFC East contention, with an upcoming schedule that's softer than a Sarah McLachlan album. The Jets invested a lot of money to land such players as guard Alan Faneca, tackle Damien Woody, nose tackle Kris Jenkins and linebacker Calvin Pace. An unquestioned quarterback was the missing piece. They got one, and there won't be any regrets. --Tim Graham, AFC East blogger
We go to the Super Bowl (losing a first round pick), get blown out and the team goes into a decade-long downward spiral of losing seasons? That's pretty much the only way we don't get the better of this deal.
It is amusing that Wisconsin is the only state currently voting for GB. Guess there is something in the water.
It is a worthless poll until we know what each team gets. So far, both teams have pretty similar records.
One of my favorite things about the Favre trade is that now there are no more excuses for our play calling. Favre's arrival is the first step in BS1's departure. Kiffin for OC!
There's no way the Jets got screwed on the Favre deal at this point. He's still a good NFL QB and he's the primary reason the Jets are winning at the moment with Jenkins a close second. In a year or two we may wish we had the pick back but I highly doubt we'll regret the entertainment value we got out of Favre.
Ironically I'm from Wisconsin and I voted for Green Bay. This is why. We gave up a high draft pick. (a lot) Green Bay gave up literally NOTHING at all. They did not give up anything. Favre was going to be retired and they got a free draft pick.
Maybe. The better the Jets do, the better the draft pick GB gets. And it looks like Rodgers is turning into a good QB for the Packers so this trade has likely prevented Aaron from leaving via free agency this offseason. It'll be interesting to see exactly what pick the Packers get from the Jets and who they end up selecting with that pick. IMO it has turned out to be a good deal for both.
Anyway, to the members that are actually good people, if we win the Super Bowl then we got the better deal, if not then Green Bay did. It's pretty simple.
