Wow, you voted for probably the most underrated Jet. Vilma was one of very few bright spots on the team... I can't see why he would be overrated.
oh yeah he's only a defensive rookie of the year, sophomore pro-bowler, and he led the league in tackles...
Underrated? The whole site loves the guy. He gets alot of tackles cause the rest of the defense can't tackle but if you think about it, he really never makes an impact play. I remember a pick vs. the Rams at the end of the season two seasons ago. Other then that.
A high tackle total is usually reserved to a player on a bad team, cause the other team always has the ball. Kinda like a hockey player leading the league in blocked shots. Most of the times, that players is on a poor team based on the other team always having the puck.
I don't buy it, yea Vilma is a fan favorite but its not like he gets anywhere near the national attention of a Brian Ulacher or Ray Lewis. People look at him as a great young player with the potential to be one of the best, and thats exactly what he is, no overrating there. If anyone is overrated on this team I'd have to say Chad Pennington, even before the rotator cuff injuries. Other than that I can't think of a single player on the Jets who I'd consider to be over rated.
The two most overrated Jets in 2005 were Abraham and Law. Now that they are gone, it's going to be interesting who steps into their backwards-pointed cleats. You could make a case Vilma gets talked up too much, and that he doesn't make many impactful plays. But good defenses set up situations where great and near-great players can then make impactful plays. Last season's Jets were not that team.
You're so RIGHT!! I remember another player from da "U" that was 220 lbs coming out of college and led HIS team, and eventually, the NFL in tackles at one time or another. Years later, Ray Lewis is a certain hall of famer!
We can probably attribute that to our offense going 3 and out so many times....Our defense actually held up pretty nicely because of Vilma being all over the field...Vilma is a gamer and to say he's overrated when he is the one of the few who constantly produced makes me question your football knowledge and fan loyalty.
And your point is? The guy stepped up and made more tackles than anyone else in the league becuase the rest of his team couldn't. And that makes him overrated... So if we took away the so called "overrated" Jonathan Vilma for the 2005 season what would have happened to our poor defense?
Curtis Martin (only becuase there is still people thinking he can run for 1500 yards.) his age is starting to show. and the myth that is j Cotchery
2 questions. 1) What do all these guys have in common? 2) Are they ALL overrated? Jonathan Vilma Zach Thomas London Fletcher Donnie Edwards Andra Davis Keith Bulluck Nick Barnett Mike Peterson Shelton Quarles Gary Brackett Demorrio Williams Derrick Brooks
No chance in hell it's Vilma...he is our defence. How can you say the guy with the most tackles in the NFL last season is overrated? He didn;t ave a friggin d-line to make the tackles so he had to make 'em...and therefore, D-Rob is the most overrated.
