I really don't understand it. Even with Moore out for today's minicamp we moved Slauson to RG and play Ducasse at LG. 3 problems with that: 1) How about we let Slauson concentrate on perfecting his craft at LG (and eventually make him play C since without Turner he's going to be our backup C). 2) How about we groom Ducasse to be Moore's replacement. The guy is in the final year of his contract and his health is going down... having Ducasse ready to step in could be a smart idea. 3) Since he's a better run blocker than pass protector (euphemism) could we please not have Sanchez worry about his blindside? It's beyond me why this Ducasse @ LG experiment is going on and on and on...
Potential. The guy has the build to be a bull dozer. Maybe with some real training camp experience it'll come to fruition. There are a lot of other players that were miserable early on who turned out quite nice (Bryan Thomas + D'Brickashaw Ferguson to name a few).
Potential to be a bull dozer = RG, not LG... don't you agree? It's not that I don't think Ducasse should get a chance... it's the position i'm objecting.
I'm assuming that this is because Slauson is by nature a versatile player. He has played RT, LT, RG and LG between Nebraska and the Jets. He's a natural reserve lineman and in that role he would be great for the Jets since he can fill in almost everywhere. Ducasse on the other hand is just a big body with a lot of potential that has gone unfulfilled so far. My guess is that the Jets are going RT/LG with him because those are the two weak spots on the line and they want to plug a hole with him.
Pretty sure they want Ducasse to be the LG of the future. Slauson is still recovering from surgery, he's a free agent after the season I believe, and Ducasse has a much higher ceiling. Rather than shuffling him around it looks like they want him to just focus on the one spot and hopefully turn the left side of the line into a real strength.
This is a good post. I think they're also trying to minimize how many positions Ducasse plays in this preseason. He needs to get it upstairs before anything works with him and bumping him all over the line like they did last preseason isn't ideal. It's more simple for him to stick with 1 or 2 spots on the line, preferably one.
I'm a little confused how Slauson is performing in mini camp (is it non contact?). Slauson is supposed to be out a few months due to his relatively significant surgery, so someone needs to take all his first team reps. So it only makes sense to have Ducasse step in and fill that roid. I don't expect slauson to participate in full contact anything for a while, where as Moore should be back pretty soon. And since Moore is going to be our first team RG, that by defualt means Ducasse has to be taking all the LG reps since he seems doubtful to be a RT anymore. In case that came out making no sense, Ducasse is playing LG because Slauson is hurt and Slauson is our lg.
LG is Ducasse's native position. He has more experience and success in that position than any other. It's not that bad an idea considering Moore will be retiring after this year (most likely). I'd rather see him take Hunter's job, but I don't see how it can hurt. If they are going to do it at all, mini camp is the perfect time.
how would you feel if the right side of your line looked like Ducasse & Hunter? (terrified). big boys but talk about turnstiles.
I like this reply. The guys is a huge bust in every meaning of the word. I haven't seen him play good yet. Even Hunter seems like an all pro compared to him. Ducasse is playing out his last contract as a Jet and if he doesn't improve it could be his last year. He's a turd, and it's hard to polish a turd, but not impossible. They proved it on Mythbusters.
Saluson is not able to work in OTA's due to injury. Ducasse is going to be a back up so he needs to be able to play several positions along the line. its not hard to understand why.
A actual TC without labor issues and a simpler scheme for blocking he should become serviceable... Thats all
