The Jets didn’t even have a top ten Defense in 2013, but they had 8 former 1st round picks starting, which included the last 5 straight 1st round picks for the Jets. Rex in supposed to be a Defensive guru and get the most out of his players. Shouldn’t this mean making average players good and above average like first round picks very good? Rex should be embarrassed to invest so much on his side of the ball and have so little to show for it, yet fans come to his rescue and say how great of a HC he is.

A good defensive minded coach should be investing the majority of his top pick in the offense to mask his lesser talents and be able to use 2nd, 3rd or even FA signings to build a solid defense. This is not so with Rex and the Jets.

Now fans want Rex to invest another 1st round pick in a CB. This would be his 3rd CB taken in the 1st round in five years. If we needed a CB so bad, why did we let Cromartie walk? Cromartie is only making $3.5M, which is nothing when considering he was the best CB on the team last year and would still be this year. Only for the Jets would it make sense to draft another CB in the 1st round when we have whiffed so far and give up a known commodity.

The only thing Rex has proven is he is truly his father’s son. Rex is a great DC when he is surrounded with HOF talent and knows nothing about the offensive side of the ball which he ignores every year. If we waist another year’s 1st round on the defense, Rex will be further proving he cannot get the job done in New York and should be shown the door.

If not a CB, then who you ask? I say we go WR in the 1st and TE in the 2nd, followed by a safety in the 3rd. I do not in any way believe the Jets 2015 QB is on this team, but since many of you do, why not give Vick and Smith the offensive tools to get the job done and see what we truly have or lack at the QB position. Vick is the better QB, but he is old and can’t seem to stay on the field, so we know he is not the long term. Smith was rated #40 out of 40 NFL starting QBs last year. Yes his last few games were better, but if he was on any other team he wouldn’t even be competing for the starting job.

I know there are a lot of Smith fans, but truly what has he done to warrant your loyalty? Smith was the 40th ranked QB last year out of 40 starters. Worse than any year Sanchez had by far. These are just a few of the QBs that played better that won't sniff a start this year; McGlion (Oak), Lewis (Buf), Toizien (GB), Pryor (Oak), Weeden (Cle). Compared to other 1st year QBs like Mike Glennon who was rated 21st in the NFL and is on the trading block, or EJ Manuel rated 29th or even McGlion rated 32 with a QB rating of 76.1 compared to Smith with a rating of 66.5 (40th). If Smith was on ANY other team he would never see another start.

Yet as mentioned I know you are Smith fans and until we see him surrounded with talent, you will always fall back on the crutch that he didn't have help. So I say spend the 1st and 2nd on two more weapons and let the chips or Smith fall where they may. Worse case is we give next year's QB we draft a solid offense to help him become the franchise QB.

I gave some good intelligent thought into this post and even said give Smith the chance to prove himself by surrounding him with talent. Your well thought out reply was .......... I bet you didn't even read it before commenting.
What is worse; blind ignorance or blindly following the ignorant?

Last post before the draft. Rex is not in charge. Idzik is. If they love someone badly look for then to move up a spot or two. If not they will stay at 18 or move down. Cleveland at 26 is the best possibility. This is a great draft. Plenty of good players available. No need to go crazy. If there is anything we have learned about the GM it is that he will be thorough and unemotional. Bank on it .

didn't read that wall after reading the sky is falling headline. I wish someone would tell Idzik that Rex is apparently still making all the calls
So in case you didn't know, the shot callers for the draft are:

    1 Woody
    2 Rex
3 Flo, the Progressive Insurance agent
    4 Idzik

Altough 1 and 2 can be flipped depending on which TGG member is raging.

Problem is, all of top picks outside of Hill Sanchez and Keller are defense and even they're not the exception nor quality players

Rex's first draft was all offense. Problem was it was 3 players! Not enough picks cut the margin of error real thin for Tanny and he missed on those pick or missed developing on those picks.

Agreed though, we clearly have used top picks on defense and it really seems like it's all defense because the offensive picks have been bad or haven't stuck around. 2009 draft was Slauson, Greene, and Sanchez. No contributors from that draft on the team now.

No it def did not leave much room for error. That's y it seems like we've neglect offense. We generally haven't drafted well on offense

Because you spent a 2nd round pick on a QB last year and are paying a veteran like 5 million to compete with him.

    Pretty much this.

There are obviously reasons why Manziel is dropping hard. S was a good pick.

Feed the pig, just another 1st round defensive pick for Rex. Brandin Cooks was there and we should have taken him. Lucky for him though he will have a HOFer throwing him the ball and not a legend in his own mind..

Lol. Do you even history? Drew Brees was so bad in SD they spent the #1 pick on Eli Manning (traded him to NYG for Phil Rivers). Give Geno some time. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to post here.
