Is anyone else concerned with the status of the wide reciever position?
Coles has not shown that flash he once had,McCareins is out of shape,Cotchery is unproven,Chrebet is a goner,Dwight is old.

I still strongly feel this team lacks a #1 RECIEVER a guy who has speed and height and makes things happen.

At this point and time Vernon Davis should have been the pick and we should have went after either Keyshawn Johnson or Terrel Owens.Without quality recievers the running game is hampered.

Offensively speaking other than a better offensive line i dont see any playmakers or point scorers in my observation so far.

Rebuilding yes making plays and scoring touchdowns part of the process.

What the offense lacks is a play maker. But, seeing as you can't fix all of a 3-13 teams' problems in one year - we'll have to wait until next year to get our big time playmaker (be it WR or any other position)

This year - be happy with fixing our O-Line, going a long way to solidifying the new 3-4 LB group, collecting a good group of DBs (Dyson, Barrett, Miller, Strait and Rhodes, Coleman and Smith) and possibly finding our QB of the future.

Next year we must get that play maker - Adrian Peterson????

TO would add 2 years to our rebuilding process.

You obviously haven't been paying attention to the type of players the new regime is bringing in. Look for WR to be addressed next offseason with hardworking, team-oriented players.

We have how many quaterbacks in camp? What good is a QB who has no targets to throw the ball to? Vernon Davis would have been a nice addition. The more i read about this guy the more i feel we missed out on him.

This season we have Coles, JMac, Cotchery, Dwight, and Smith. Not great, but sufficient for a first year rebuilding season.

Vernon Davis won't be making any plays when Alex Smith is on his ass 2 seconds after the snap of the ball.

Some people are just so dazzled by the big "playmakers" they don't realize what enables these players to be "playmakers".
Our skill positions are pretty solid as long as our O-Line doesn't break down and feed our QBs to the lions.(not the Detroit Lions!)
Winning begins in the trenches and the running game on both sides of the ball. Everything else will come.

Coles isn't hurt. I am not a big fan of JMac so I won't really defend him here. Just because Cotchery is unproven doesn't mean he's not good. He's a young player who can definitely come out this season. Dwight is old, but still has some gas in the tank. Not bad for a 4th reciever and could be a deep threat.

Like I said, I'm not claiming that we have all stars here. But for the first year of a rebuilding team, it's not that horrible. It will be addressed next season.

Im not disagreeing with you. who knows? Maybe a decent veteran will be released or by some miracle Cotchery is the real deal.

5180 no doubt about it, I agree wqith you that our receivers are sorely lacking. There are others on this board who are way more optimistic than I. I hope those guys are right- jmac bounces back( I'll sooner meet jesus) Coles regains his form(Ive seen one season out of hiim to talk about) and cothery is the future(who knows). however theres no way the Jets were in the position to take vernon davis. This has been mentioned ad nauseum and it would have been ridiculous to draft a tight end with all the problems we have as jeterps said. You cant fix it all at once and we had to start at the O-line. Our receivers though I think are clearly now one of our weakest parts and hopefully they can be improved upon. I for one wouldnt mind seeing exactly what it would take to get Jerry Porter, even a 2nd rounder I'd be wiliing to do.

I can't believe people are still making posts like this. You don't bring in TO on a team in this condition. What more does the front office have to do to hammer it in that this team is in a rebuilding phase? And to those of you who fail to see that, I feel bad for you this season.

I like that idea Jerry Porter maybe the change of scenery in a system that utilizes him may jumpstart his career. Why not a 2nd rounder.Im sure we can recoup the pick trading Bollinger.
