that while he did have a fine game, and is off to a good start this year, that final interception was WAAAAAYYYYYY underthrown, further exposing his biggest weakness as a QB?
What's the point of an antagonistic thread title like this? Anyway, the throw wasn't so much the problem as his decision to make that throw. The Jets needed to throw a 10-15 yard sideline pass there and get out of bounds before having any kind of realistic chance of a Pennington pass reaching the end zone. With his relative lack of arm strength he needs to avoid making poor decisions like this one, as well as the blunder running out of bounds on the last drive before halftime.
Yeah, throwing against an eight man secondary is REAL EASY. Sometimes people just knock Chad for the hell of it. If he had better protection and the defence make a few more stops, then what.
if his biggest weakness is that he can't throw hail Mary's I think we'll be ok. he can make all the "real" throws that are needed to be made and he's proven that his first 2 games back.
i find it funny that even the commentators where even suggesting bringing ramsey for that final play.
Sure he can, he did it twice against ten(50 yds in the air b/c he was throwing from the opposite hashmark across field) and those throws are rare and not always needed. Most of the time "deep passes" are 30-40 yards. When healthy Chad can make all the throws he needs to make.
sure it was underthrown, but he made all the throws he had too...most of the QBs in the NFL would have underthrown that hail mary, with the exception of maybe brett favre, peyton manning, and michael vick
Ok so your pointing something out every Jet fan knew seasons ago. Thumbs up buddy. What Chad lacks in arm strength, he makes up in knowledge. He might not be throwing 50 yard bombs, but does anyone else besides me see how he controls the tempo of the pass game. He's owning defenses in the past 2 weeks with NO RUNNING GAME. Hats off to #10. Let's keep him healthy boys.
Honestly, I don't care how well his hail mary was thrown. I hope we're not in a position to need one....
I agree with what has been written here about that last pass. What is his record against NE now? 0 and 7! They do not fear his arm and stack the LOS so we can not run or use play action fakes!
I've killed Chad many times over the past several years. I grew up in the era of playmaking QB's including Namath. Chad isn't that kind of player. The truth is in this league right now Chad is one of the better QB's. He isn't elite like Palmer, Brady and Manning but he is very good compared to almost every one else. This O isn't yet close to fully functional. Let's see where we are in another 6 or 8 weeks. I have a good feeling about what they are trying to do on O and I like what I have seen out of Chad so far. Did anyone think our WR would be the strength of this team in the first two weeks? I sure didn't but they are. Cotch has made a huge difference and McCariens is actually contributing out of the slot. Coles with Cotch and Pennington delivering the ball looks like a new man. Something good is unfolding here, we should enjoy it.
I don't think it's unreasonable to point out that his arm isn't 50 yards strong. It just doesn't concern me as much when he's dead-on inside 25 yards. My only concern for Chad - and it's not going away any time soon - is his ability to stay healthy a full 16 games.
hold your breath too everytime he takes a big shot huh? my fears have only gotten worse after realizing we nasty the bills D is and how nasty jacksonville D is
IMO the biggest difference between Chad "worshippers" and Chad "haters" is this: The worshippers can admit he isn't perfect...the haters expect him to be and like to point out every single flaw the guy has.
