Im just wondering what does everyone think. I just saw the post about Pennington likely not starting and I don't know how long Ramsey can hold fort. But does anyone see Clemens getting in this year. In a way I would like to see him but I'd rather let Brooks get in there or even Kingsbury then destroying Clemens (meaning his confidence and possible injury) Just wondering what everyone here thinks. I would like it if we just toughed out the season regardless of where its going and save Clemens for opening day next year.
Well obviously if ramsey messes up, and penny is not ready he will probably get the nod, but ramsey would have to completely suck for games in a row.
I really don't see the sense in throwing Clemens into the fire. We have 2 decent starting qb's. The only way I could see him coming in is because of injuries.
I think if he does it will be for the Astros. I can't see him uprooting himself to go play for New York or Boston. I guess the Rangers is another outside bet. Oh, wait, my mistake. No.
I think we should all hope for a year that Clemens doesn't have to see the field, he's got a lot to learn. What is this his 4th offense in 5 years, or something ridiculous like that. Let him come in, learn the system, keep in mind, he played out of the shotgun his senior year, although he has experience under center. Truthfully if it came down to it, I rather see Brooks in there rather than Clemens for the next year.
i hoping clemens starts week 14. i rather him get the experiance out of starting in the nfl. the last 2 weeks of the season when the games are meaningless. similar to what the giants did with eli. so he has a idea on what to prepare for in the offseason
I think the coaching staff will play whoever has the best camp and preseason. I don't think Clemens will be ready but you never know until they get him on the field.
I don't think he plays unless... A: Ramsey and Chad play HORRIBLE. B: Both Chad and Ramsey get hurt. Under those circumstances he may see the field. I really don't think its necessary to play him though. We don't have the team Pittsburgh had in 2004 so he wouldn't have anywhere near the same success Big Ben did. Most rookies need at least one full year before they can play decently on the field. Sometimes it takes other players multiple years. I would sit him all of 2006 and let him learn. The only way I would let him play is if in the last two weeks of the season we were already out of the playoffs, and only if he proves in practice he is ready.
He will be inserted into any game we have no chance of winning. When the outcome has been overwelming decided there is no risk to test his decision making and throwing accuracy in the big league. It will happen, I just hope it doesn't happen too often.
I would add C: Late in the season if it's (the season) already lost and they're not sold on Ramsey or Pennington. Their is no substitute for real experience, and it will also give them a chance to better evaluate him before the offseason.
I don't think there is any question he will "play" again, but I HIGHLY doubt he ever plays "well" again.
If we are not in playoff contention by wk 12, I would imagine he gets the last 4 weeks for experience.. See Cleveland last year and how they handled the Charlie Frye grooming, IMO that would be the plan..Now this is all depending on Clemens improving each week and his undertanding of the playbook..
I agree with that, but I honestly would only play him if he looked ready to compete. I wouldn't want him to go out there and suck.
