He will probably be on the practice squad again this year, which I think is good. He has a strong arm, good student of the game, and I truly think he has most upside of any QB on our team. I am not a Smith fan and never have been whether college or now, and we know what we have in McElroy and Sanchez. Call me crazy, but he has some raw talent, great arm strength and more upside. I think he has the best mechanics of any QB on our team.
Practice squad may be the place for him. Hide him until next year when our QB roster will be minus 1.
Simms isn't a factor. Never was. His problem is that his contract is inconsequential so his status doesn't matter.
The only reason he didn't play more is because they wanted to give Sanchez as many reps as possible in the system and to give Sanchez an opportunity to leave on a high note.
It was fun to see him play since we never really get to watch him out there. He looked pretty good too. I'm in the "would like to see more" camp as well.
Too bad after his first really nice drive MM took the ball out of his hands. I guess being up 2000 points that's the thing to do. Maybe MM was more interested in evaluating 3-4th string RB's and lineman versus Simm's throwing motion?
The league has seen plenty of Sims already, he's lost alot in his game, but he still has the zip in his arm
I had this feeling early in the 3rd Quarter that Sanchez was in a position to hang himself with another pick but he pulled it together by targeting Braylon Edwards a bunch and dodged that bullet. Simms probably should have played the 2nd Half but Sanchez left everything so shaky at the intermission that the Jets almost had to send him back out there to start the 3rd Quarter. He just looked bad in the redzone twice during the First Half. Not shaky, flat out bad.
I was thinking the same thing...and I was thinking what was left of the crowd was going to go ape-shit on him if he turned the ball over again. Can they really start this guy at home this season?
The Jets had to send him out there as a saving grace. Im positive the coaching staff left him out there vs the 2's and 3's in hopes that he could actually look good and redeem himself. Sadly, he couldnt even do that. If it wasnt for an absolute beauty of a catch by Braylon on a terrible pass, that 2nd half is uglier than the 1st by a large margin.
Agree with the "want to see more of Simms." I'm not a big college football fan, other than my school, so I don't pay attention. But I liked what I saw. DEFINITELY should have started the 3rd quarter had it not been for "Fragile-ina" Sanchez's mental state. They wanted him to go out on a "good" note. Almost a shame we were up so big too...I'm certain that's why they started running the rock a ton. He was throwing lasers in that first drive and the score easily could have gone into the 40's had they not just killed drives by running the ball. Definitely would like to see more of Simms as he progresses.
Do you even know who you are talking about??? He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Jets last year (2012), he's NEVER played an NFL regular season game in his LIFE. You're probably thinking of his brother Chris. I personally would have liked to have seen more of him, the kid has a GUN and he showed it, I would definitely be interested in seeing him play more, like the OP said as QB he has the most upside on this team. If an OC like Marty took him under his wing & showed him the ropes I think the skies the limit for this kid, hope he plays next week as well, I liked what I saw & I want to see more of it.
