To be honest, I gave away the New Orleans game weeks ago. Before the season, I said I'd settle for 2-2 coming out of September with Sanchez still healthy, and 2 of the wins coming against AFC teams (the Pats being one, of course). Then prior to last week's game, I said I just need the Jets to grab this next conference game and it'll be OK if we drop the NFC game. Of course, with each win, nothing is good enough. But the reality is, the Pats vulnerability is likely to disappear in the coming weeks as Brady gets more comfortable and Welker returns. It's a possibility we could retain our 1 game edge over the Pats going into our 2nd game with them in New England, where they could erase the lead and the tie-breaker with a win. I want to put another game between us, and this is the week. The Ravens are playing well, Welker is still unlikely to play. The Pats will lose this game. The Jets need to keep the pedal to the floor and extend their lead and their advantage. Objects in the rear view are closer than you think.
I was thinking about this. How sweet would it be to have the Pats at 2-2 and us at 4-0? Hey, on any given Sunday....
With the Jet's history they really have to win every week for awhile if they want to maintain their emerging favorites status. This team has let down so often in the past that the early games of the season are nothing but a weak augur of where things will eventually wind up. 6-1 turned into nothing in 2000. 5-0 was followed by 5-6 in 2004. 8-3 nearly turned into 8-8 last year. This team needs to just keep winning at this point. They'll have some space for a loss along about week 9.
I understand your post, but what would this game be if the Pats win against the Ravens? Which, I might add, is much less improbable than a rookie head coach and a rookie QB going 3-0. Would it be a super-must-win? A super-duper-must-win? It's not wise to count these Jets out. Ever. But it's downright foolish to chalk up L's for the Pats, especially in Foxboro.
HISTORY is irrelevent .... What the JETS did in 1969 or 2000 or 2004 has absolutley NO BEARING on how we will do this week or for the rest of the season. I don't think that there are any JETS Veterans that were on the 2004 team let alone 2000 and before that will take the field this week and in the future. This is NOT the SOJ, this is Rex Ryan's creation ...
If that happens we will have a 3 game lead on New England when you factor in the Tiebreaker. How f'ing awesome would that be? I think Week 6, Bills @ Jets, is when the Jets could put away the division (unless of course we suffer some terrible injuries), if we are to win the next two weeks. Starting 6-0 with wins over all 3 division opponents and having at least 3 game lead on all of them would be huge.
oh boy....i bet there were more than a few posters sitting around last week with some dirty underwear after the 14-0 domination evaporated into a 17-14 deficit - in an eerily similar way many of us have witnessed for decades with this club.... with this franchise, history is very relevant, and should be a motivating factor for the owner, gm and coach going forward. jil
I personally think the Pats will beat the Ravens at home. Regardless, going 4-0 would be huge. If we can find a way to win this game, we have a legitimate shot to be 9-0 heading into the rematch with the Pats.
Why can some people not understand that you can want your team to win but at the same time feel that they might not? I'm not saying you should concede a loss but you can look at things objectively and not have to be a constant cheerleader. DO I want the Jets to win this week? Hell yea. I'll be living and dying with every play just like everyone else. Do i think they will...No. If that makes me a shit fan to some...then so be it.
It doesn't make you a shitty fan, it's just pointless. Any given Sunday...who knows maybe Brees tears his ACL first play of the game
Actually, I think the Pats have a better chance of beating the Ravens than our chances of beating the Saints, but there's always that one ball bounce or fumble that goes the wrong way. With some luck, the Pats could go down. Flacco should have some success up there (probably more points on the board than we had) and the Ravens defense is going to smack Brady around again just as bad as we did. I could see the Pats losing, but we're going to need even more luck to beat the Saints. Tough game Sunday...
i do not think anyone in the AFC east will pull away and open a 3 game lead.... i do not think the jets will win sunday but you never know. its NOT a good matchup for them regardless of how aggressive the D is. the schemes are much improved but the talent lags a bit. an offensive team like NO should exploit that. they need 1 or 2 more offseasons to upgrade a couple spots and then watch out.... i am actually more juiced up about the next game at miami. i think i will be more impressed if the jets, after a loss in NO, go to miami and kick ass.... jil
You know it .... I was one of them, BUT something felt different. In the past I knew deep down when we lost the lead like that, well ... we were usually done .... It's been 40 yrs that I've been backing the JETS and only the JETS .... This year feels different, my gut kept telling me that we were going to come back and win the Titans game ... my mind kept trying to tell me I was crazy (LOL)
I think we can do that. It's a Monday night game against the Dolphins and that will give us a short week to prepare for our home game against the Bills, but I think we can get a win against both of them. A win against the Saints would be awesome, but something extraordinary has to happen for that, like a solid ground game magically appearing.
I bet the Patriots are going to beat Baltimore. This is going to be the game where Baltimore's current defense gets exposed for what it really is - overrated.
Yep. History is not changed in games (except the Super Bowl), it's changed in seasons. There's nothing the Jets can do to change their history until they've conquered a season game by game until the last one. This team right now is less talented overall than the Jets were going into 2004. That doesn't mean it's not going to be better before all is said and done but let's not kid ourselves on the overall talent level.
