I have mixed feelings i mean i think we should because he can open up a lotwe draft a reciever 1st round so we can have lee or sammy wakins? , hill, kerly, holmes(?) nelson, and then graham i think it would be awesome for geno Think about saints reciving core is good but no elite players Graham opens it up for them
The Saints are never letting him go, anyway, but no. We have several key positions to upgrade. I want 2 or 3 quality receivers, another safety, another outside linebacker, probably yet another corner, and yes, another TE. Giant, bloated contracts that eat up a disproportionately high percentage of the salary cap just aren't worth it in the NFL (UNLESS it's an elite, franchise quarterback). There are 11 guys on the field at any one time, and with the restrictive salary cap, not enough money to go around as it is. Add to that the ever-increasing likelihood of any one player getting hurt at any given time and I just don't think that signing Jimmy Graham to a monster contract is a wise move for a team that is still building a foundation. Let's build through the draft and with cost-effective, economical FA signings.
I don't understand why so many people on here seem to think he will be available? LOL You actually think the Saints will let him walk? Are you nuts? LMAO
What TE in their right mind would leave their future HOF qb and best chance of a 2nd ring for Geno Smith, whom is an unproven rook? Won't happen.
Hypothetically if he was free he'd leave NO for the right price, a team would have to overpay in our situation but players mostly look to most money first before best fit.
I think graham is at the cusp HOF status, one more SB ring would pretty much seal it. This coupled with him not being Revis (LOL) puts a few more variables in the equation. He would re-negotiate before he would go to the Jets IMO.
Money talks. He hasn't gotten his big contract yet and if the Saints are dumb enough to let him become available to others- he'd walk. He'd catch passes from any body with an arm as long as their is a higher amount of 0's at the end of the checks he's getting from the organization. I don't think the Saints give him the opportunity. But if they do - oh boy. he's getting a monster deal somewhere.
If the Saints are dumb enough to let Graham hit the free agent market we pay the man what he wants. No one needs him as bad as we do right now with the possible exception of the Raiders.
he doesn't have any SB rings and while he has been great the last 3 years he has to keep this up for a while before discussing the HOF.
this thread is a pipe dream. even if the Saints let him walk -- which ain't happening -- he would never come to the Jets. He's got Brees lobbing him 1-2 TDs per week. You think he wants to derail his HOF career (and deal with perennial losing) trying to catch passes from Geno / Matt Simms?
If we get Graham we will overpay for him. As much as I'd LOVE to have him as a weapon there should be similar options that are cheaper. As good as he is, I don't think he puts up near record numbers without Brees, although a game changer like that would be huge. Personally I'd rather not make any HUGE FA moves this coming off season. I'd rather get cheap fill ins and save our big splashes for 2015. By then most of the 2012 & 2013 draft classes will have matured, and the 2014ers will be ready to break out along with the added weapons. I really think we outta focus on the draft more than chasing FAs, at least for now. But I certainly wouldn't be opposed to adding top flight WR or TE. In one of my fantasy leagues, I was fortunate enough to get AP in the first round, Brees in the 2nd, and Jimmy Graham in the 3rd. Those dudes have carried my team all year, while the rest are plug and play matchup guys. I'm the leader in total season points by far mainly because of those 2 doubling up the points. I'm a big JG fan, but don't see him on the Jets, mainly because the Saints are going to pay him big bucks, and he'll stay, probably for less than he'd take elsewhere, due to his shot at a championship.
This is a pipe dream,Id take Olsen tho.Im not a big college football guy so i dont know what stud TEs are coming out of draft this year. But id like to see us draft one in round 2 or 3.But as it relates to Graham why would he come here?Even in the small chance he left the Saints The Pats would love to add him so would alot of teams with better QBs.We would have to overpay and im sick of this team overpaying. The only player who deserves to be overpaid is a stud QB
Sanchez and a 3rd would get the Saints to trade him, then we sign him to a cap friendly, incentive-laden deal. Easy Peasy.
The Jets don't need extremely over-priced players and if Graham somehow became available he'd be extremely over-priced. He won't be available though. The Saints will tag him for a year to give themselves time to reach a deal they can live with. No football player is worth spending absolute top dollar on. Even the QB's aren't worth it in the end because they can't carry you on their backs when everybody else is a grunt.
