Gm 1: Hughes vs Hernandez Gm 2: Burnett vs Furbush Gm 3: Nova vs Vargas Yankee bats have dinged up King Felix and he's outta the game. Hughes has eaten innings.
In his defense, he probably felt pretty safe about Dickerson not going deep against King Felix. Nice to see the Yankees finally get to Hernandez, I can't remember a pitcher showing such sustained domination against the Yankees. Also, is there a better second half player in all of baseball than Robbie Cano?
how many home starts does he have vs the Yankees? Five? anyway, vbetting on tonight's game http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=67673
I went to bed after the second. How'd AJ pitch? I know obviously he gave up the lead, but he only gave up two. Did he pitch well or was he lucky to be facing Seattle? Congrats to Mo. And Robbie is ridiculous.
Both. Seattle can't hit, but he did look good. From LoHud: "Since the sac fly that tied the game at 2 in the third inning, Burnett has been absolutely dominant. He’s struck out five of the past seven Mariners, with the only exceptions being ground ball outs." Struck out 11.
Wow, I didn't know he fanned 11. Regardless of the opponent, that's pretty damn good. Again, obviously it was only Seattle, so it's not like he was in danger of getting shelled, but executing is executing. Did you actually see the game? I'm wondering how his control over his breaking stuff was.
Nova's a stud. So glad we didn't trade him or any of the prospects away for Ubaldo Jiminez at the deadline. No support for him today. 7+ 1ER, no decision. We're in extras.
All you fuckers are probably asleep..... we're going to the 12th. Cory Wade just ate an inning, he's been cash/money this year. Would really like the W tonight to move 5 up on the Pink Sox.
For fuck sake.... Luis Rodriguez walk off solo ding off Wade. Whatever, on to the next one. Bats fucked this one up.
I absolutely love Nova. I don't understand how we didn't destroy a guy who had an ERA over 13 against us in his last two starts though. Looking at Twitter this morning, I saw that at one point, Brackman and Proctor were warming for the Yankees. Who would have ever guessed they'd see that coming into this year? Hell, even a month ago!
The law of the old baseball gods, yes. Of course, in defense of the move, it's not like Rivera has particularly shined when called on for that role.
Is that right? I'd imagine the sample size would be infintesimal. Seriously, what difference does it make if he starts pitching at the beginning of the bottom of the ninth with no one on base, or the bottom of the tenth with no one on. He still throws the same pitches to the same guys. If he can do it in one situation, why have Scott Proctor or some other stiff do it in the other? Totally fucking off the hook if you ask me. You have the greatest relief pitcher of all time, but you only use him like a China doll in situations that are tailor made to maximize his success, while you throw out mediocraties to get people out when runners are on base and the game is in the balance. Ridiculous. (you youngsters note the spelling). And I reject that its the old baseball gods that drive this. In the old days your relief pitcher came in in important spots no matter whether it was a save situation. This is the law of Tony LaRussa or some such douchebag.
Dunno, I've heard Yankees fans complain a lot that Rivera often gives it up when he's called upon in non-save situations.
