http://twitter.com/Joelsherman1 At least he gets on base. Can't hit lefties all that well, but may get hot hitting righties in YS. EDIT: Olney has the same thing. http://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN
Berkman doesn't want his 2011 option picked up so he can possibly return to Houston next year. http://twitter.com/alysonfooter
This is such a Cashman move. Can't ever make a deal for anybody who can help the team so pick through the garbage and absorb as much salary as possible. So, who doesn't play anymore? Posada? Cervelli?
They didn't trade for Berkman to sit on the bench. They traded for him because they couldn't get Dunn and to replace Johnson. And as usual, a typical piece of shit Cashman panic move. He can never make a deal that helps so this is what you get.
Lol. Cashman could deal for Jesus himself and you'd complain that he has problems handling a curveball. You're insane.
Totally insane. Berkman still hits righties very well. I assume this means Thames DHs against lefties, Berkman against righties. And when Cervelli catches, Posada can actually rest. Gave up nothing to get him too.
http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/hardball/yankees_could_trade_for_berkman_zlUaTRh15sl6bUs1h6L2YI EDIT http://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN And the rumor is the "prospects" are Kevin Russo and Jimmy Paredes. This wasn't even a salary dump. This was like robbery.
Complaining about Frankie Cervelli riding the bench so Lance Berkman can get into the lineup is delusional. Even for you. Look at Cervelli's numbers since he went .400/.471/.517 over his first 70 plate appearances and tell me that he's an everyday player. This is a wonderful deal for the Yankees. They are getting a veteran power hitter to DH at the cost of "a non-prospect minor leaguer. If he continues to struggle against lefties, well that's why Marcus Thames is on the team. One of the conditions of the trade is that the Yankees don't pick up his option, so it doesn't interfere with any long term plans. Put it this way: tonight, in probably the biggest game of the season thus far, Colin Curtis is starting at DH. And Lance Berkman just fell into our laps for free. Even if Berkman flops completely in the Bronx, this move makes total sense.
haha, I just assumed Don's "analysis" had shorted out your brain. Cashman said he wanted to improve roster depth, and this deal certainly does that. Berkman was basically given to us.
From what I hear, it's almost a given Berkman goes back to Houston. So they essentially let him go for a few months, got some nice prospects in return, saved a few bucks now and will sign him for much less than his contract would have paid him. Good deal all around.
Actually they're getting a non-prospect minor leaguer in return (rumors say it's Kevin Russo,) and according to Buster Olney they're paying $4 million of the $7.5 that Berkman's owed. So Ed Wade's still an idiot.
