GM's streak is dead, my turn to start a new one! (Shit I need an edit - Someone turn the @ into a vs)

    Likely matchups:

Does anyone know when Hughes should be pitching? I was thinking Friday, but Wang is listed on the Yankees' site against the Royals.

Will they be putting the kid on the mound on a hot Saturday afternoon in Yankee Stadium? A packed house for his return. That should do well for his nerves.

I read that it will be on Saturday.

And I have no problem with that since I have tickets. Can't wait to see him pitch.

I think I read that Hughes was slated for Monday against the Royals. But one thing I like about Hughes is that it doesn't seem like his nerves get TOO much in the way. He's very composed for a 21-year-old.

ETA: Never mind... I was wrong. It was Saturday that I read.

Wow, an afternoon game at the Stadium. I'm not sure I would have done that, after returning from a pulled hammy.

I'll agree he is an incredibly composed young man. This should be an exciting game to watch.

Cool stuff on those tix MM!

Alio.....you are the man....you make me chuckle bro.....and I know all your comments are from a sincere love for the yankees....but could you please tell me why a "hot afternoon" game is more pressure for the kid than a friday night? hahaha Im trying to figure out your point but I cant......if I had to look for any tiny tiny difference Id say saturday afternoon is better because the heat will loosen up hammys and the such better? not that I would even use that.....please explain bro

Meaning it's a perfect day for baseball. Meaning the Stadium will be sold out, even against the lowly Royals. Meaning more fans in the stands cheering and going bezerk. That's a lot for a young guy if he gets at all nervous. (Which so far we are pretty sure he isn't, but I'm still not convinced he wasn't nervous and overstrided to pop that hammy in the first place. Granted it was during a no-hitter, but still...)

I didn't mean the weather would poorly affect his hammy. I'm not an idiot.

I just meant there'd be more people, and therefore more pressure, than if it was, say, a rainy Thursday night game.

And hell yeah bro. No matter how crazy I might sound, I LOVE the Yankees. Always have, always will. Same goes for the Jets. Sports is life.

The difference in crowd intensity from a Saturday day game to a Thursday night game is likely negligible in comparison to the difference in intensity between the minors and the bigs.

In other words, if the pressure is going to get to him, it's going to be because of the first 45,000 butts in the seats, not the added 5-10K.

Honestly, I also assumed (wrongly,) that it was going to be a FOX game as well, seeing as how we haven't had one in a while. It's just a YES game, though we'll have a FOX game two weeks from then.

Saturday......against Meche. The order for now is Mussina, Pettitte, Clemens, Wang and Hughes. Not ideal by any stretch.

Chamberlain struck out the only three batters he faced last night in his first relief appearance. One more inning tomorrow and then we will see what they decide.

Giambi had two hits and is now batting .300 in his rehab starts..meaningless but worth mentioning anyway. At least I'de rather have him on the bench then Chris Basak.

Update on Chamberlain. He hit 100MPH last night on at least two pitches and could be in NY by Friday night.

Honestly, I think you get too upset by what any listed order is for the rotation. All that matters is matchups, not where in the order guys fall. The only time the rotation actually "matters" is Opening Day, where it's a matter of prestige. Otherwise, it's inconsequential.

Bring Chamberlain up now. Screw it. Let's get the help. We can't afford to lose more than another dozen games. We've still got a lot of baseball left.

As for Giambi, honestly, at this point, I'll take him as a DH over Damon. Damon has filed away all of my patience. He's got to go.

You're right as long as Mussina isn't pitching against the opposing team's ace. I haven't really looked very far down the schedule and I probably couldn't figure that out anyway. What really matters is how things start matching up when the Cleveland series starts and right now that looks like it would be Hughes, Mussina and Pettitte. Unless they change things because of that off day just before it. Cleveland would have Carmona, Byrd and Westbrook..we would catch a break only in that last game.

I would love to see Chamberlain up if for no other reason then to have Clemens take him under his wing and maybe teach him the splitter to go along with his fastball and slider.

Heh..Scott Proctor, Kyle Farnsworth. Proctor continues to draw interest from the Dodgers, Devil Rays and other clubs. The Yankees are "begging" to get rid of Farnsworth, a rival executive says.

If somebody would take him and his salary we would probably make a deal for a new dugout water cooler.
