I give him a B. Defense has been good this year, but the run D is just good enough and they get killed by big plays.
not really sure what he does - but for a "championship level defense" they sure fail to hold teams on third down and disappear when it really matters
yep, I cannot give him a grade in good conscious because I don't know if he or Saleh really runs the defense (during practices etc)
His playcalling has, for 2 years, led to the defense CONSTANTLY giving up long plays and big third downs. I can't stand that they almost never, ever blitz. Even the 1980s Giants blitzed even though they had Lawrence Taylor and Carl Banks coming off the edges! Also, they can never seem to stop anyone before the second quarter. Even the Bears were running all over our defense for most of the first half of that game! The Dolphins, with their 3rd string QB, dominated the Jets in the 1st half, and even the Broncos looked great in the first half against us! Yeah, the defense usually digs in by the 2nd half, but it's often been too little, too late by that point.
No scheme, per se. The defensive philosophy is to get top notch players and turn them loose. When that's not good enough, there's no actual scheme to help.
The defense was the Jets strongest suit at the beginning of the season. The Defense had arrived ahead of time. Then they left. They evaporated. What happened? Ulbrich better figure it out by next season and make dam sure his D sticks around for the entire season.
He gets a C. Much better than the F he truly earned in 2021. Pretty good defense, but fell apart when it mattered most.
Before I give any grades, someone explain why Lawson and JJ had 38 and 36 snaps respectively, while Huff, arguably our most efficient pass rusher, had only 7.
