The New York Jets selected S Calvin Pryor from Louisville in the first round (#18 overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. Many had expected the Gang Green to go defense in the first round, following the trend established since Rex Ryan's arrival in New York, but not one mock draft predicted the Jets to select Pryor.

Pryor, 5'11", 207 lbs, was a top 15 pick, according to NFL.com. The same source lists him as a player who plays with confidence and throws his weight around. He also has "good pre-snap recognition,— makes adjustments, can leverage the field off the hash and cover ground." Additionally, Pryor possesses good zone recognition and is rangy enough to play center field.

Pryor might be the most explosive hitter in this year's crop of safeties, He is a big, physical player in the run game who intimidates his opponents. He will be expected to start in the rookie year.
