Jets indefinitely suspend Patterson

The New York Jets suspended CB Dimitri Patterson indefinitely for going AWOL for 48 hours and missing last preseason game against the New York Giants. Patterson joined the Gang Green this summer as a free agent. The team signed him to a 1-year $3M contract to replace departed CB Antonio Cromartie in the starting lineup.

The situation with the Jets' secondary just keeps getting worse. The team's best cornerback, Dee Milliner, is injured and his return in time for the season opener is questionable. CB/S Antonio Allen, who impressed in training camp, suffered a concussion against the Giants. Rookie CB Dexter McDougle is out for the season with a knee injury. Veteran CB Kyle Wilson, a former first round pick, has proven to be pretty awful as a starter and can be used only in nickel and dime formations.

The Jets also released six more players, bringing the size of their roster down to 75. Free agent acquisition WR Jacoby Ford was the biggest name on the list. The rest of the released players are CB Ras-I Dowling, WR Mike Campbell, TE Colin Anderson, DE Anthony Grady and FB Chad Young.
