The Jets have finally parted ways with DE Muhammad Wilkerson whose play rapidly deteriorated after cashing in on a big contract two years ago. By the end of last season Wilkerson's work ethic went down as much as his on-field performance, as the former Pro Bowler was benched for the final three games due to being late for meetings.

The New York Jets face an all-too-familiar situation ahead of the 2018 season. The team are once again in the market for a franchise quarterback. Todd Bowles' men passed up on the opportunity to draft a quarterback in the 2017 Draft, selecting defensive back Jamal Adams. That move yielded dividends as the former LSU Tigers man had an impressive rookie campaign. With the NFL Draft being over two months away, all mock drafts at this time are only speculation and entertainment. The teams still have to go through free agency that will one way or another affect every team’s needs before the Draft. The Jets, who have #6 pick overall, are as always in need of a franchise quarterback. They are also projected to have close to $100M of salary cap space that should enable them to go after Washington’s QB Kirk Cousins. If the Gang Green do land Cousins, landing a franchise quarterback through the Draft will no longer be their number one priority. But for now, pretty much every Mock Draft has Todd Bowles’ team drafting a quarterback in the first round.

NFL free agency is just a month away and the Jets are finally poised to make some big signings. With about $100M of projected cap space GM Mike Maccagnan's job could be on the line if he fails to deliver this offseason. The Gang Green also have plenty of free agents of their own and some of them could be worth being re-signed.

Before the 2017 season began, the New York Jets were a consensus dead last team with a high probability to have a winless season. As the season progressed, Todd Bowles' crew went up as high as #18 in some power rankings. They finished 5-11 and ultimately crashed down to pretty much where they started. ESPN had them at #29, while both the Sporting News and NFL.com put them at #30 in their post season edition of power rankings. Yahoo Sports placed the Jets at #28.
