Sam Darnold was the Jets' prized pick in last year's draft and the early reviews are that they made the right choice. Darnold improved as the season wore on despite an offensive line that was more porous than stalwart. Finding a top-tier quarterback is the primary objective of any franchise and the Jets seem to have done their jobs. But one man does not a team make and if New York is going to move from the basement to the penthouse of the AFC East then getting Darnold the protection he needs should be paramount.

It's not often that kickers steal the spotlight but when one breaks a franchise record with seven successful field goals in a game, tongues start wagging. That’s exactly what unheralded Jason Myers did last week which contributed mightily to the Jets' 42-34 victory over the Colts. The Marist College product drilled 30, 48, 32, 37, 45, 37 and 45-yard attempts through the uprights and his 24 points are the second-highest single-game total by any player who did not score a touchdown in league history. Myers was claimed off waivers from the Seahawks prior to the season and out-dueled Taylor Bertolet for the kicking spot.
NFL free agency is just a month away and the Jets are finally poised to make some big signings. With about $100M of projected cap space GM Mike Maccagnan's job could be on the line if he fails to deliver this offseason. The Gang Green also have plenty of free agents of their own and some of them could be worth being re-signed.
