The New York Jets made it two in a row on Sunday, as they rushed for over 160 yards on the way to a 17-10 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This was exactly what the Jets needed to take pressure off struggling QB Mark Sanchez. Sanchez once again committed a turnover when he fumbled in the first half, but that's pretty much where his mistakes ended. He was 12 of 19 for 111 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT. The Gang Green really didn't need more from him, as RB Shonn Greene and RB Bilal Powell ran for 78 and 77 yards respectively and each scored a touchdown.

The New York Jets' defense came out on a mission this afternoon, after a shaky performance last week against the Cowboys, as they intercepted four passes and limited Jacksonville to just 203 total yards (112 rushing and 91 passing). The Gang Green crushed the Jaguars, 32-3, but lost All-Pro C Nick Mangold who suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter. Mangold is scheduled to have an MRI tomorrow, but it looks like he will miss a few weeks. Rookie OL Colin Baxter replaced Mangold and performed pretty well.

Rookie DE Muhammad Wilkerson was fined $10K for his fight with Giants RB Brandon Jacobs during the teams' preseason game last month. Jacobs was hit with a $20K fine, as this wasn't his first offense. Both players were ejected after shoving at each other in the second half of the Jets' 17-3 win on Aug. 29. Wilkerson, 21, will start for the Jets in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

The Jets had all of their starters, except for rookie DE Muhammad Wilkerson, sit out tonight's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, as the coaching staff wanted to see their backups give it one last try to make the squad. QB Greg McElroy started the game and was expected to play at least three quarters but got sidelined with a thumb injury, which appeared to be rather serious. He will have an MRI tomorrow. While in the game, McElroy was just 3 of 6 for 29 yards.

The Gang Green reched a contract agreement with their first round draft pick (#30 overall), DE Muhammad Wilkerson. The deal is $7.4M for 4 years, which includes a $3.9M signing bonus. The first three years of contract are guaranteed.
The first round of the 2011 NFL Draft is behind us and it seems like general opinion of the Jets' pick, DE/DT Muhammad Wilkerson, has mostly been positive. The junior from Temple is expected to start from day one and add to one area where the Gang Green have struggled the last few years - pass-rush. Let's take a look at what various media outlets had to say about the Jets' first round selection.
The New York Jets selected DT Muhammad Wilkerson from Temple in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Wilkerson, 6'4", 315 lbs was projected to go late in the first round. He recorded 9.5 sacks in 12 games in 2010 and 7.0 sacks in 2009.
