Sure am. If you can't make the playoffs then you do the best you can to improve in the future. We can't make it so the best thing we can do is get the number 1 pick next year. The last time we had the #1 pick Peyton Manning decided to return to Tennessee for his senior year instead of coming out as a junior. We wouldn't be having this discussion if he hadn't made that decision. Of course he may have made that decision because we did have that pick. That wouldn't surprise me one bit.
I thought Houston made a huge tactical error with their pick. They should have traded it a month before the draft, using the period between the end of January and the end of February to drum up interest in Reggie Bush who was the obvious but flawed candidate to be the pick. Instead they negotiated themselves into a hole with him and wound up taking Mario Williams instead. Of course Williams has 3 sacks and 2 tackles for a loss in his 2nd season and he may well turn into one of the better DE's in the NFL so I think they cut their losses there. The only skill position worth taking on the #1 pick is a QB. The only #1 picks at RB that turned out to be worth anything in the modern era were O.J. Simpson in 1969 and Earl Campbell in 1978. It has been 29 years since a good runningback was taken on the 1st overall pick of the draft. WR's obviously are a complete and utter waste of the top pick overall, as are TE's.
I would make a topic...but just to tell you guys Trent Edwards is gonna start for the Bills against the JETS... Last Sunday wasn't a spectacular performance on paper for Trent Edwards, but consistent decision making and two victories in three NFL starts carries weight. Head coach Dick Jauron has elected to start the rookie signal caller at quarterback again this week against the Jets in the Meadowlands. It also sounds as if the Edwards will hold onto the role beyond this Sunday's game. "We are naming Trent Edwards as our starting quarterback," said Jauron in a statement Tuesday. "I have spoken with both Trent and J.P. Losman and want to get the word out to our fans." Jauron plans to address the details of his decision in a Wednesday afternoon press conference. It will be Edwards' fourth straight start and fifth appearance after he played virtually the entire game at New England following J.P. Losman's knee injury. It will be his first start on the road. In his three career starts Edwards has completed 70 percent of his passes while throwing for 563 yards and one touchdown against three interceptions for a passer rating of 78.3. But what appears to have Buffalo's staff most impressed is the play of Edwards that's not revealed in the statistics. The rookie quarterback was almost flawless in his execution of the no huddle offense last week against the Ravens. "He did a really good job, making the right calls on run plays and pass plays," said Lee Evans. "He passed the ball efficiently, finding guys over the middle. I think he did a really good job of knowing what he's seeing and just playing." "We played a lot of no huddle snaps," said Jauron following Sunday's game. "There are a lot of options at the ball. He's got some options up there and he has to get us in the right stuff and he did a nice job doing it. He didn't miss much." Relying on a rookie quarterback to effectively execute a no huddle attack in his third NFL start was a strong indication as to the faith the offensive staff has in Edwards. "The no huddle package that I know our head coach likes a lot and our offensive coordinator feels comfortable with puts a lot of ownership on the quarterback to make some decisions out there," said Edwards. The staff also relied on Edwards last Sunday to slow down Baltimore's pressure defense by mixing up the cadence before the snap. The Stanford product proved successful in this area as well, drawing the Ravens defense offsides five times in the first half. "They knew we run a blitz package and a lot of that is built on timing," said Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs after Sunday's game. "You slow us down by changing the cadence up. They did a good job." At this point Edwards (219) has been on the field for more than twice as many snaps as Losman (103) and the other offensive players now appear to have a familiarity with how Edwards operates. Jauron did cite continuity as a factor in his decision to make Edwards the starter at quarterback last week. Momentum was likely a factor too. Coming off the bye week Jauron stated to his team that it was an 11 week season. After their win over Baltimore last Sunday, Jauron's message to his club was that they were 1-0. To change the person playing the most important position on the field following a hard-fought victory over a physical team would probably leave a lot of players scratching their heads, especially after most were of the opinion that Edwards performed admirably. "He had a lot on his plate last week and I think he handled it really well," said Evans. "He made plays when he had to, he made some right reads and we were effective in the passing game."
I don't think it's unreasonable to think the Jets will pick up a few wins down the line. Every game the Jets have lost (except NE) they were in it and COULD HAVE won. Every game, either the offense or the defense showed up, and the other side of the ball didn't. I can't believe this will happen EVERY game across the season. There will be a few where the Jets have their act together and pull it out. I'm calling 5-11. Don't know against who, but Parcells help us if two of those wins aren't MIA and KC.
The last thing we need now is a win. Lets hope the draft picks ( i hope for at least 2 in each of the first two rounds) will turn the tide. The plan is - draft picks!
Are you freaking kidding me? How can it possibly be worse??? We're 1-6! Watching Kellen play against the Ravens gave me more excitement then ive seen ALL year long with Chad. He may not win more then 2-3 games, but i think/hope he'll at least give us something to look forward to going into the draft. This team is going nowhere as it is with Pennington so the time is now....
honestly.. i know were 1-6 and the defense has a whole hell of alot of problems, but the team is not that far off. we were in every single game this year up to the last drive except for the pats. if we didnt have the most predictable playcalling in the entire league and a retard uncharacterisically throwing game changing picks on a consistent basis, we could easily be around or above .500.. if clemens is anywhere near like he was in that one 4th quarter, i truly believe we have enough playmakers on offense to compete with with almost anyone in the league. i know the line has been taking alot of shit, but honestlyy how much better has pass protection gotten since the start of the season? if clemens can open up the offense and the playbook.. we will surprise alot of teams as the season goes on and can focus most of the offseason on that defensse.
Outside of the NE game we have been in every game and Chad has pretty much blown all of them. With Kellen in, I think we will win at least 4 of those games.
I dont See how anyone can really think this team would have any more wins with Kellen or would have any more than Chad the rest of the way. Kellen needs to play !!! YES!!! - so the brass can evaluate him to see if he is the future and to get the learning curve behind him. He will not win us any extra games this year. Most likely the opposite it true - 3 wins (slight chance of 4) with Chad the whole way vs 2 wins (Slight chance of 3) with KC.
