Parker: 2004 - 9 receptions - 137 yards - 1 touchdown 2005 - 36 receptions - 533 yards - 3 touchdowns 2006 - 30 receptions - 387 - 1 touchdown Cotchery: 2004 - 6 receptions - 60 yards - 0 touchdowns 2005 - 19 receptions - 251 yards - 0 touchdowns 2006 - 60 receptions - 765 yards - 5 touchdowns I would say that Parker did, in fact, have a better first two years. *note* I am not saying he's better, and that I would rather have him, because he's not, and I wouldn't. I'm just saying that statistically he was better in 2004 and 2005
2004 was a push at best for Parker. Remember, Cotchery returned a kickoff for a touchdown and was good on special teams. 2005 was a push. Parker was a low-end starting WR and did nothing on special teams. Cotchery was a backup WR and very good special teams player. 2006 is clearly in Cotchery's favor.
Also, keep in mind Parker did not play in 12 games in 2004. Cotchery was at least making a contribution on special teams. Parker made all 9 of his catches in the last three games when the Chiefs season was already over.
Cotchery is more my type of receiver than Evans. He's just more of a speed guy. I'll take Cotch any day of the week.
QFT. I hate Berrian too, but it doesn't help that he's mostly a speed guy. I need a little toughness in there. Evans is tough, but not Cotchery tough.
I'd take Cotchery over all those players. 4th rounder having this much talent is pretty cheap. Some may be better, but cotchery is the best when it comes to value atleast. Im sure his next contract will have a few extra millions for his worth.
Sammie Parker Cut by Denver If you still want Sammie Parker, he's available, hah....Denver cut him today. (and I take Jerricho of Lee Evans)
In a restrospect... Cotchery was well worth 1st round pick. I wouldn't pick any other WRs other than Larry Fitzgerald or Roy Williams over Cotchery.
I would take Cotchery over Roy Williams. Williams is a "me" player. There was an issue after the 1st Green Bay game last year (November 22). Calvin Johnson had 15 passes thrown to him and Williams only had 7. During the previous 7 games, Johnson was only thrown to sparingly. As the season progressed, Johnson got more comfortable and was featured late in the campaign. Now Mike Martz is gone so the Lions will throw the ball less often. I betcha Johnson will become the go-to-receiver in Detroit this year and Williams is probably going to mouth off about it. I don't think Williams will be with the Lions in 2009. Cotchery is a team player and is tougher than Williams. Mind you, Williams is not a wuss. He will go over the middle and expose himself to big hits, but I think Cotchery is a tad more courageous. Rashaun Woods is the guy who really disappointed me from that WR draft class. For a top college WR, he was quite slow. In a game in Lincoln, on a post pattern, he caught a pass beyond two defensive backs. He had about 20 yards to run for a touchdown. He was caught from behind. Such a play should have been a red flag. A 1st round WR should never get caught from behind like that on the college level. Despite his lack of speed, I still thought he'd be somewhat productive in the NFL because he displayed exceptional hands and technique at Oklahoma State.
Cotchery owns those 3 guys... I'm starting to think we're the only fanbase who consistently *underrates* their best players. It's probably the whole 40 years or whatever it is thing...that sucks. Even keel...Clayton, Henderson, and Berrian would kill to be the WR Cotchery is. And he's got the potential to be even better it seems, because he seems to be able to handle the deep ball better after a few drops last season.
Umm....Hello! He has only 89 speed rating in Madden. Everyone knows you need at least 93 to be good. Hopefully the Jets get Usain Bolt. He'll be the first player in Madden to get 100+ speed rating!
I'll take Cotchery's contract over Larry Fitzgerald's every time. I'll take Cotchery's durability over Roy Williams' every time.
