Have the Yankees "contended" for a championship recently? 2004?

I would think any player in the major leagues would agree that making the playoffs every year is "contending" (even with last year's likely only speed bump.) I think you'd also be hard pressed to find a major leaguer who would say that the Yankees or Red Sox aren't perennial contenders.

You can hate them all you want, it doesn't mean they aren't successful at making yearly title runs.

Well, you're right, Morneau is the player that the prospects page compares him to. I only plugged in Teixiera because that's the context we're talking today. In the end, how do any of us know? McAdam the other day was talking so glowingly, I couldn't help but ask myself how often Sean had actually seen him play. I can't imagine very much, if at all, which means that he's getting his cues right from Theo or Mike Hazen. I wasn't placing a value on him at all. Just listening to the chatter and trying to divine any small indication of their hot stove intentions. If anything, I think Theo would love for Boras to think that he genuinely values Lars Anderson as Teixiera-in-waiting, and maybe THAT's the motivation for feeding stuff through McAdam.

I trust the scouts more than what Sean McAdam says as far as player potential goes. Like I said, I think he'll be very good, just not Mark Teixeira good.

    On another note...

I like where this is going.

$184 million bucks, almost seems like a discount if he performs the way he did this past season.

I think what went on here is more than meets the eye. The Mets just signed his number one free agent, KROD. The Mets have alot more money to spend on future free-agents than the Braves (notice the Mets just slouched off losing $300 million in the Madoff Ponzi scandal). The Mets owners, Wilpon's company Sterling Equities, have assets that dwarfs the Yankees if you follow business news. Its just not flaunted. He did the Mets an enormous favor by steering Furcal towards the Dodgers, away from the Braves. Its a favor to be paid in the future. Welcome to the real world Don. If Wilpon's company wanted to they could have bought up every free agent on the market this year and not even sniffed about it, but this is not what they are about, they run the Mets as a separate business entity. If you don't believe me, do some research on Sterling Equities, its Wilpons company.

Gotta love the reporter who asked Burnett if he can stay off the DL...7 years in a row?

AJ - "I know, I don't need to hear it." (laughter)

Well AJ...Stay healthy for ONE season and maybe you won't have to hear it...I found it funny how he tried to spin it saying he was a thrower all the time, he would throw the day after he pitched and such...

Stop...You're injury prone and you're a risk. Hope for the best.

No agent, especially somebody like this guy wants to completely piss off any team. Boras has done it in the past and there are a few teams who won't deal with him. The Braves have always been a class act though and to cause this kind of reaction from them may influence a lot of other teams as well.

"Calling the Rafael Furcal negotiations "despicable" and "disgusting," Atlanta Braves president John Schuerholz said his team would never again deal with Furcal's high-power agent, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution."

I have never seen anybody call Boras despicable before.

Very classy. In the OLD days, a Yankee fan would have been above that. But I guess the new wave of Yankee fans have their mouths in the gutter. Son, I shook hands with some of the Yankee greats when I tried out for them in 1965, and they would be embarassed by you.

You know that running out on the field during the game isn't a tryout right?

I like how you added that Yankee great bs after I posted.

Even if I was a Yankee fan, I wouldn't give a fuck if you banged Joltin' Joe himself. You're still a pompous ass, with no real fucking clue.

Get outta here Sox boy! You have your own thread to pollute

Fact: The Yankees have 26 championships. Red Sox have 8.
Sox fan logic: 8 is a greater number than 26.

Fact: 4 years of success doesn't make up for a century of losing.
Chowderhead logic: The Red Sox were established in 2004.

Fact: The highest payroll of any WS winning team ever is the 07 Sox
Sox fan logic: Only the Yankees buy championships

    Fact: Manny/Arod > Manny/Ortiz
Sox fan logic: OMFG Big Papi OMG LOLZ!!

Fact: God is a Yankees fan.
    Chowderhead: There is no God

    Fact: Clam chowder is awful.
Sox fan: I bathe in clam chowder
