Now that I think about it though, it doesn't make sense. Why would they immediately come out of the meeting and say they have no chance? It's likely over, but there's a small chance they are just calling Boras' bluff. I hope that's the case.
But Washington??? Who wants to be miserable for 10 years? I guess you really can leave misery on the field with 200 mill in your wallet.
He'd be an idiot to turn down Sox offering 184 mill.... Is losing for 10 yrs worth $20 mill more... I don't think so.
You do realize that $20 million in guaranteed money (if the difference is really that small) is still a shitload of money, right?
The Sox F.O has a good standing relationship with Boras and John Henry isn't the type to negotiate through the media. It's dead. Which means that some team (soon to be discovered) has decided to commit themselves to WAY too much money over what will also probably be too many years. Oh well...
If probly is getting an insane 10 year, $210-$230 deal, which is absolutly too long and too much. 8 years, 160-180 sounds more reasonable

Dude what can you do with 200 million that you CAN'T do with 184 million? 20 million+ is not worth losing when you get to play for a perennial contender in Boston. But who am I to say what someone can and can't do? Maybe he'll go ARod after a couple years and ask for a trade...To the Bronx
Texiera has always said he wanted to play for his home town team (The Orioles) and be close to home. Now with the Nationals, he has 2 options for a hometown team. Oh, plus alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
rofl. Read some of the comments on that page. People are acting likes it's the beginning of the 2004 alcs.
1. Buy an additional $16 million worth of stuff. 2. Earn an additional $800,000/year in interest. I think a lot of people just don't get how nearly all of these professional athletes work. It's odd to see, really. There's richer than 99.99% of the population, but are stingy as all hell. I don't know if it's all coming from a sense of entitlement or what, but just as an example... my old co-worker would take pro athletes out for drinks after an autograph signing... guess who ALWAYS wound up paying the bill? My co-worker. The guy making $80K. The guys making $10 million? Happy to let the poor guy pick up the tab. $20 million+ means different things to different people. But I'd probably be able to convince myself that things can change, and a lack of competitiveness now doesn't necessarily mean that it will always be that way. Hey, the Yanks sucked for a decently long period in the late eighties to early nineties. Boston did, as well. The Rays have seemingly turned things around after years of sucking. If you gave me an extra $20 million dollars, I could think of a few good reasons (twenty million of them) to buy those arguments.
I got that impression with what Henry said yesterday. That does help the Yankees but in the end it is also probably best for you too. He is good, real good, but I'm not sure he is 10 years and 200 million good.
Watch this be the Nats. I just read that the Angels and Orioles both say they haven't been in touch with Boras today (Thursday). I'm as sure as I can be that it is not the Yankees so you would think that leaves only Washington. That would help everybody in the AL if he goes there to disappear.
