he was "cruising, because since the 1st inning, he had only given up 3 hits. And his pitch count wasnt "relatively" low...85 pitches after 6 is very low. How many times have you blamed Girardi for having a quick hook? Now he left him in too long? c'mon. Hughes has been shit, I would have held off as long as possible before bringing him in. Girardi did the right thing.
and teh dagger game thing? How is bringing in hughes to start the inning( who I assume you think Joe should have brought in) "going for the win" as opposed to leaving in AJ? OOOOOOOOH, Phil HUghes is in...game over! c'mon. Maybe we should have brought Mariano in in the 7th and go for the 9 out save!!! now thats going for the win!
ugh...yesterday i felt like I was watching the Jets. My heart rate was increasing and I was let down in the end. I just hope to the power of Babe Ruth that his aura gets this team back to where they belong... The world series. Btw, I know there is always second guessing with Girardi, but last night was ALL on the Bullpen and Burnett shitting the joint in the 7th. Swisher needs to be pushed all the way down in the lineup or swapped with Gardner. He had a good fight with Fuentes, but Fuentes had the jitters and he looked like he was going to crap in his pants. I dont want this to go to a game 7, because we will see a combination of Lackey and Weaver out there. I hope the rain stops tomorrow and the conditions play to yankees favor. That is all.
Yeah, not blaming this one on Girardi. Blame AJ for not having his curve working in the first inning. Blame Hughes for shaking off Posada. Blame Hughes for missing his spots horribly. Leaving Burnett in the for the seventh was not that bad of a move. It's some low-hanging fruit for second guessers, but that's about it.
Yeah I didn't mind brining Burnett back in, altho I would have preferred to just start the inning with either Hughes or Joba and have the other one pitch the 8th and have Mo come in. Shit happens tho and it's all good, I still love the Yankees chances this series Tomorrow is supposed to be a high of 66 and rainy and a high of 60 on Sunday...lot cooler than in LA lol
Actually, I would have brought in Robertson for the 7th. AJ's curve was off all game. Right from the start. You have a completely rested bullpen thanks to off days and Sabathia's performance. You bring in Robertson to start the 7th because you have a tiny lead against a team that has proven they can score. You stab them right in the heart, right there, dead. That's not overmanaging. And as I've said, Hughes gets his blame for blowing it. He didn't do his job. My point was, his job was exponentially harder because Girardi tried to push AJ one inning too far. Not to mention that had we won, the entire pitching staff would have 5 full days off before any chance of another appearance. Why hold anyone back? Poor performance happened last night as a result of poor managing.
Well there's the disagreement. You think AJ's curve was off all game. I (and others) think he looked fine... more than fine, actually... after the first inning. You already know AJ's been doing really well. You don't know if Hughes has it tonight. Or if Robertson would have had it. If there is any complaint, it could maybe be that Girardi waited until there were two guys on, and maybe he should've yanked him after the first guy got on.
The Yanks showed signs of fighting back regardless of the deficit. I'm not worried about hitting the Angels, I am worried about the Angels hitting Pettitte in NYC
Okay, that's fair. I didn't really think AJ had it last night. But if that's where we're all disagreeing, then I see the problem. On your last point, I mentioned that earlier. If Girardi was dead-set on letting Burnett go into the 7th, why wasn't anyone active in the pen before the inning started? You only have a one run lead on a team you know can score. You have to be ready to cut off the bleeding immediately if they get a RISP.
Man, this one hurt. I've never been that hyped up in my life then I was in the 7th inning. A few minutes later, I was heartbroken by Hughes, say it ain't so! It was Hughes and the 1st inning (us not scoring with 2 on 0 out and Burnett giving up 4 runs) that cost of this game. I thought we had this, I really did. Burnett settled down, we scored 6 runs in the 7th to take the lead, only to blow it. I was upset with him, but can't be all mad at Swisher as upset I was with Hughes. The only reason I'm not more upset is because I am confident with Pettitte at home for Game 6. We showed we have comeback capabilities in us, so if it come down to that, which I hope it doesn't, we are capable of doing so. We just need to score early for Andy and he will do the rest. Also, Swisher, I think he needs to see the bench for Game 6. I love what he brings to the team, he's a good guy, but he's just not getting it done at the plate. Gardner in CF, Melky in RF (or vice versa), do it. Saturday it is....
I'm pretty sure there were two people up and ready at the start of the inning. Marte and Joba were both up from the previous inning. Joba sat down and Hughes got up in his place right after the inning started (and before Marte came in).
Are Yankee fans actually nervous about this series now. The Angels have shown nothing but extreme difficulty scoring runs. they've had 1 game where they scored an amount of runs you'd think is needed to beat the Yankees, and even then it was just two innings of production and 6 innings of can't touch the Yankee pitching. there is nothing that indicates the Angels can do that for another two games, not to mention needing their pitchers to shut down the Yanks batters. these aren't the 04 Red Sox.
Fatcessa just said Pettite will throw a 1 hitter tomorrow. Hes putting it down as his prediction. Who does he think these Angels are, the Orioles?
