This is true as long as you have the cap money to do so. Were do the Jets stand as far as cap? Do you need to resign anybody if so how much do you have left for rookies and FA?
If anyone thinks we are just an offensive coordinator away from being a good team they are mistaken,,,,yes we need a real coordinator but we have little depth and talent at sooooooo many positions and we have a glaring hole at qb,,,not to mention we need cap money to plug some holes,,,,,,blow it up,,we are a mess. The only way I can see this current jet team getting to next years Super Bowl is if the buy tickets to the game ! We need a big change
You always have a chance w/ Rex & some of the players this team has on defense. All the offense has to be is functional & this team can contend. That said..the offense needs alot of work both philisophically & in the personnel dept.
no such thing -- you take what you have that works, remove what doesn't, try to fill in the holes, and if things click you compete. Cleveland and Buffalo and Oakland etc...have been rebuilding for years with no luck.
The sad truth is we will all be waiting on the news of a Revis trade. That will show whether we are rebuilding or not. I'm torn with whether I want to see him go, I mean we won that Divisional round game vs the Patriots because of our outstanding pass D... If we get Landry re-signed, cutting Scott to let a younger faster Davis start, we just need those two OLB positions taken care of. I'd say McIntyre is fine at one spot, especially if we have Wilson in for a lot of downs, but we need that one player who basically does what Aldon Smith does (although it would be unreasonable to expect one as good as him). Other than that (if we are only 'reloading') we absolutely need RB's and a Guard. We are actually fairly deep at receiver now that the season has played out and everyone will be healthy next year.
If we don't win the SB next year, expect Woody Johnson to blow everything up. As of now, he's going to get either Michael Vick or Matt Moore as a QB (with GMac remaining backup). Sanchez will not be playing QB with us next year. Rashad Mendenhall or Steven Jackson will be on our team. Rex will stay, Woody will get a GM he trusts and had a previous relationship with. Norv will be here as well. Essentially, he will go as all in as possible to win the SB next year. Same for the Giants, most likely.
It can happen quickly and you can turn it around in a hurry. Skins won 5 games last year are on the verge of a 9-10 win season. Vikes won 3 games last year and are on the verge of a 9-10 win season. Colts won twice and are in the playoffs. Seattle won 6 games last year and is now a 10-11 win team. Denver was a .500 team last year and now is gonna have a first round bye. Rams were a dreadful 2 win team who improved dramatically.
That's the problem with the Jets, they don't think about the longterm, it's always about the now. I do agree that this team is not as far away as people think, but we still need to fix areas on the team that has been weaknesses for years. The pass rush NEEDS to be fixed. You want to be a defensive, ball control team, then you need to at least be able to apply some sort of pressure. You want to run the ball, then we need a bellcow as the primary RB, Powell and McKnight are fine as change of pace backs. We need a 1RB and that can be resolved in free agency. We need to add depth to the o line through the draft. Honestly I would lean towards starting McElroy but I wouldn't be surprised if they went with a vet like Vick or A Smith.
That's all well and good if u are a playoff contender... But we are not, not even close. We have beat ONE team with a winning record in the last two years.
It's really expensive for the Jets to not be in rebuild mode next season and even then the cap is going to be a real problem. I think Woody is probably going to look at the season as a potential disaster if the Jets don't start working on some of the fundamentals in the talent base. I don't think he's going to want to be embarrassed by the possibility of a big push going sour because the fundamentals were bad. I think he's pretty likely to let his GM and HC start the rebuild and hope he gets lucky in there somewhere. That happens. The Bengals got really lucky with an early 2nd round QB and went from rebuilding to instantly competitive. That could happen for the Jets too.
Rebuilding Year??????? Trading Cromartie and Revis??????????????? Are all Jet fans on drugs or is it just you??? There's no rebuilding happening, Our defense doesn't need to be rebuilt , it will if you trade Revis and Cromartie. Theres nobody in the draft worth trading up for so why the fuck would we do this in the first place. Once Tebow is gone and we have a New GM and OC and we bring in a Veteran QB we will see the 2013 Jet team taking shape. We aren't rebuilding were just fixing alot of problems . We have been rebuilding since 1969. Rex isn't going anywhere he is Woody's guy , you haven't heard one serious whisper from inside the Jets orginization that Rex is getting fired. Thats because he isn't getting fired so expect him back next season because he isn't going anywhere yet. As long as Rex is still the head coach there is no rebuilding happening here. What if Rex takes us to the Superbowl next year???? How stupid are all the people who wanted him fired gonna feel. I think once the presure of the Tebow BS and the Sanchez turnovers stop Rex can actually coach normally again and not have the distractions surrounding the team
Alex Smith still has the highest completion percentage in the league and he isn't even playing anymore. So I say bring him in and an OC that knows what he is doing . If Jason Garret gets fired he could be a nice change so would Norv, Maybe even try to get the 49ers QB coach , regardless we need a new QB coach ,Special Teams Coach,OLB's coach,Defensive Coordinator duties will likely go to Dennis Thurman with Rex pulling the strings. Rex isn't gonna just let anybody come in to coach the defense , it will be someone he has known for a long time and Dennis Thurman is the DB coach and we have the second ranked pass defense in the league so he is the obvious choice because Rex can control a guy like Thurman, And guys we are likley gonna end up 7-9 thats only 2 or 3 wins away from a playoff spot. Had we won the OT game in New England and the easyest game of the year against the Titans and even the Texans game it would be a whole nother story. We aren't as far away as people make us sound it's just the Tebow thing that has made this blow up into something else along with Sanchez turning the ball over 25 times. People are acting as if we are 1-15, I blame the Tebow thing for destroying this season because it obviously had a negative effect on Sanchez along with Holmes going down and leaving us with nothing at the WR posistion
The Jet's have no depth anywhere. They need a lot of players. The Packers won the SB with some of their best players injured. I won't be surprised if Revis is traded.
