I went on a Bills blog, and many there aren't thrilled with Daboll's playcalling. Maybe it's a good thing we didn't get him.
This isn't the first I've heard of this. This has been going on all year with him. I think I heard correctly that Allens average air yard per attempt last night was 10? Why is that high in those conditions? Crazy
I guess I didn’t see much of an issue with the play calling. The issue is that they have the worst run blocking offensive line in the league rolling on two years and they haven’t made any changes to that group. They’re so one-dimensional and constantly in 2nd/3rd & 8+. I can’t understand why that GM didn’t make that fix given where they play and the fact that they’ll walk into 2-4 games like this a year especially when you consider they have to go to Foxborough as well.
Hey bickety, is it the playcalling you want me to weigh in on? If so, here’s my opinion: The bills can’t run the ball at all, it’s been that way for 2 years, so I’m not sure what daboll can do other than put it in Josh’s hands as much as you can. Bills fans knew before the game started once we saw the conditions that we’d lose, because we just aren’t built for that style of game and the patriots are. The bigger question is why can’t we run the ball and why is the oline so bad? No one knows. My opinion is the oline scheme and coach. We have guys who have played very quality football in other years in other schemes but suck now. Dawkins is a pro bowl type tackle but is getting abused out there by backups and 6th round picks. Daryl Williams has been an all pro tackle, and they had to move him into guard he’s been so bad. Cody Ford was a 1st round player who the bills traded up for into the high 2nd round. He’s been so bad they stuck him to the bench. In years past, Jon Feliciano was our best lineman, but this year, the guy couldn’t block my elderly grandmother. My opinion is, when you have linemen who played at a high level for other teams and in other years, but each one is having the worst season of their career, that can’t be a coincidence. It has to be the scheme, imo. Unfortunately, if that’s true, the bills can’t do anything to change that until the off-season. Until then, live and die throwing the ball is all we can do.
Do you not blame the GM at all though? Maybe some of those guys have regressed. They couldn’t run the ball at all last year either and they have pretty much the same offensive line, no?
Not that a Jets fan should talk, but it’s not a good sign that your team isn’t built for the type of game they need to play in their own stadium. Also sucks to lose that type of game to the Pats in your own stadium.
I dont blame him... yet. After last year ended, there was a consensus on needing to fix 2 areas - the pass rush and the running game. Beane stated those 2 areas were focused on heavily in offseason internal discussions. He stated they believed the running game woes were not because the backs aren't capable, they did a deep dive and felt comfortable they understood what went wrong and how to fix it. Beane spent the first 2 picks on pass rushers, which we desperately needed, and then used his 3rd rounder on tackle Spencer Brown, who is our best lineman and is a revelation. I wonder if they move him to LT next year with Dawkins playing so poorly, we'll see, but I'm very happy with Brown and Rousseau picks. I appreciate the GM understanding the weaknesses and having a clear and objective plan to address and fix it. The coaches must have whiffed on their schematic adjustments. I am interested to see what they do this offseason. If I had to guess right now, I'd say they fire the oline coach and draft an interior lineman with either their 1st or 2nd round pick. Bring in a new oline coach with a different scheme and a new player or two. We'll see.
Its a weird thing. The bills sucked for so long that the December games really helped level the playing field when teams would come in, because the weather made the games close for us. Now that we're usually the better team, we're killing our own chances. Last night was not even a football game, its stupid to play outdoors like that when no one can throw, kick, punt or do anything but run it up the middle for 3-5 yards every play. I almost now hope the Bills make the playoffs with as little home field advantage as possible so we get to play the games elsewhere in better weather. Its a passing league and we are not built to run the ball, nor do I want them to be. The bills are in new stadium talks and I hope to God they dome that bitch. I think they probably wont, because its so much more expensive to do it, and Buffalo is not a huge money making market.
A dome in Buffalo would be a damn shame a team that can't run the ball or stop the run will not last long in the playoffs, in ANY stadium
Allen shoulda had a lot more than 6 rushing attempts and a lot less than 30 passing attempts. Daboll blew it
I agree they should have ran him more. Drop back to pass and then find running lanes like Lamar does on seemingly every play. Allen did it one time I remember and broke a 15-20 yard run. Should have been more.
its why you OUGHT NOT actually watch this Jets team play RZ decreases the # of crap reps you see... if they win, you basically see hilites
