Aaron Glenn seems psyched about how safety Malachi Moore has looked in camp. We could have a 4th round rookie starter on our hands -- Moore was a 5 year starter at Alabama, you might've heard of that school. 2 time team captain and SEC 1st teamer. And he falls till the 4th round?
The one rookie kicker struggled and has been cut. Not the chubby one, Mevis, he has been good but he hasn't won the job just yet as Glenn said they are bringing in our old friend Nick Folk. Folk has gotta be 40+years old easily by now Jets Sign Kicker Nick Folk
The day we drafted him a lot of people thought he could be a day 1 starter. Now that camp is underway it looks like he absolutely should and will be. He's been fantastic the last few years. My only thing is... why cut Morstead because he's a vet if you're gonna bring back Folk? It sounds like the punters have been awul.
We HAD to do something at K because Zuerlein was just awful last year, but there was NO reason to cut Morestead…this is just going back to the same shit that Mac did…cut good K to save a few dollars.
Yeah this has been my concern all along…I just don’t think Fields is any good as a QB. He’ll make a few highlight plays here and there, hit some long bomb once in a while, or more likely, break off a big run, but as a consistent QB, he has sucked for 4 years now, and the most likely outcome is he will continue to suck. If he was going to figure it out, he most likely would have done so already. Geno is the only guy I can think of that sucked for years and finally figured it out 10 years later…but outside of that, great players don’t take a long time to show they are great. So to me, we’ve had 4 years to see what Fields is…the Bears gave up on him as did a much better front office and coaching staff in the Steelers. The chance of a rookie defensive HC and a rookie OC suddenly unlocking Fields’ potential has got to be pretty damn slim if at all.
I agree with this. There's always a chance he's Geno or Darnold or Mayfield but its highly highly likely he's not. He'll keep us in games because of his legs and probably not win us many games with his arm. Look at it this way: he got the Bears the first overall pick! (I know that was the Panthers pick)
Yeah…the “upside”, if there is one, is that the more we lose the better our draft position in a supposedly good QB draft class. Of course, I’m SO tired of going into seasons playing for draft position…and even these supposedly good QB draft classes often turn out to suck…or at least disappoint. It’s so crazy when you think about the most popular sport in a country of what, 330 million people, that there aren’t even 20 people who can play the QB well, let alone 32. And while I do love the league’s structure with the draft based on record (no stupid lottery bullshit) and the cap and the revenue sharing, which all go to promote parity, at least structural parity, the league in truth does not have parity. It’s because the rules have been so geared towards promoting the passing game with the roughing the passer and the pass interference rules, that the only real way to win consistently at the championship level is to have a star QB. Without that, you don’t have a real chance. In the old days of the 70s and 80s, you could win with a strong defense, or a great running game, etc…there were multiple ways to win. You could attack the QB. You could attack receivers. So not that I am against the changes to promote safety…all good on that, but you should be able to at least hit a QB…crazy that in the Super Bowl, they actually let Philly hit Mahomes, and it made all the difference in the world. So getting back to Fields…I’m hoping he can give us solid, average QB play, but I honestly think he’ll end up ranking kind of midpack at best. We’ll see where that gets us
Which reports suggest punters were awful? I only read that Kickers sucked, but punters have been all right. As far as Morstead, he declined last year and he is old. Folk is also old but he did not decline. That doesn't mean he won't decline this year, but this is something to see in training camp.
Saw a few tweets when we released the one punter that both were struggling. I couldn't even tell you their names tbh.
It's Fields first full practice in pads, and he did finish strong. He had a lot of good moments before also without pads. Way too early to tell one way or the other, but I am not down on him just yet. Let's wait and see just a bit longer. We will have a better idea after these joint practices.
I listened to Blatt podcast a couple of days ago and some JetX guys. Mostly shitting was on Kickers, punters seem to be fine at the moment. Nevermind, found it: https://jetsxfactor.com/2025/07/28/ny-jets-special-teams-roster-move-main-concern/ Looks like Faria was the guy. Yeah, maybe we need a punter too. But I still don't like Morstead trajectory. Perhaps there is another move in store though.
@Jets79 @BroadwayAaron Btw, this was not as bad a day for Fields as maybe some reported. Here is the recap from Blatt. "- It wasn't the best day for the offense — though the defense deserves credit for that too. Aaron Glenn said as much. Some overthrows by Fields, drops from Mason Taylor and Arian Smith that should've been caught, pressure from the D-Line. Nothing to panic about though — some days the defense wins, some days the offense wins. Offense looked better in the move the ball period at the end of practice, capped by a Taylor touchdown. I had Fields at 7 for 11 in 11-on-11 drills — including 4 of 5 in the final period with a 10-yard scramble." 7 for 11 with two drops (Mason Taylor and Arian Smith), and a 10 yards scramble. Pressure from DL for two sacks. 1 TD, no picks. This is not amazing, but not terrible whatsoever. I think we would take that type of performance from our QB any time. Agree with Blatt, nothing to panic about, particularly when it comes to Fields. He was OK today.
It's honestly not a huge concern for me. We're going to be bad this year, punting is not going to change that although we'll be punting a lot. I was all aboard trying to find a young guy that can stick for a while but at the end of the day, it's the mixed messaging that has me confused. And even that term is used loosely. Yea this reads far differently than what everyone was tweeting live.
I have higher expectations than you, and I want punting to be good. There is still time though. I am just not a fan of old punter who declined from a year before, but we do need to find someone good. There is still some hope for McNamarra. On Fields, he also had a TD today and no picks. He hasn't thrown a single pick I don't think through the entire OTAs and Camp so far. I am actually encouraged by him so far based on all I read.
Damn, I know you shouldn't overlook the Punter, but I'm not even thinking twice about who our punter is with everything else that's going on with this team. Stick on 4th down if we don't have a punter. We have bigger concerns. Regarding Morestead, great guy, glad you were here, nice knowing you, hope you make Canton. Happy 39th Birthday.
